This was my last hunt
« on: July 06, 2006, 11:56:22 AM »
Got six farms to shoot on and two of them insist that i remove as many Peacocks & Peahens that i can as they are a real pest here they like flower gardens & the farmers wifes are not to happy with them we also take the odd turkey.

think the dog is the hunter here. A question though... can they be eaten like Pheasants for example??

Hi, The Peahens are good eating infact better than chicken i think  but the peacocks we dont eat they are a bit tough however we can make money from their feathers because i'm told that they use them for making flys  for trout fishing.
The turkeys as everyone knows are very nice far better than procesed turkey and theres so many of them the four i shot that night sitting on a fence along with 12 others i could have quite eaisly shot the lot but better to only take the for and preserve the rest for another day & i dont like to get greedy would rather let them breed.
Oh and yes the dog is the real hunter he doubles our kill of possums when we shoot them & will find peacocks & turkey after we drop them but cant find.

Great shooting!!

Wow!! Glad to hear that it was your most recent hunt, and not your last hunt, like, ever!!

...Had me worried there for a second, lol!

Ya know...if they caught you shooting one of them peacocks here in CA, they'd prolly be using your tail feathers to make trout flies, LOL!!

Really i take it they are protected there. I wouldnt normally shoot  them but thats one of the conditions of a couple of the farms that we shoot on if we see them we have to shoot the they do a lot of damage otherwise i wouldnt cause i think they are a very nice looking bird.

I shot them with my Shadow 1000 I use that for most of my small game hunting and use the CFX for FT as for the brushTail Possum no i dont eat them becuse they carry TB and that something i dont want to get its also one of the main reasons we shoot them also the fact that they destroy out native bush but i do get good money for their fur it takes about 20 possums to get 1kg of fur and i get paid $70.00 per kg so in spring that will pay for all my new guns.
