Eric Back to Hospital for Minor Surgery
« on: June 18, 2007, 02:23:26 AM »
Just a note to all here in the GTA who supported  me and my family during Eric's bout of pneumonia this winter. He goes in to outpatient surgery tomorrow morning to replace his stomach tube and his trache tube with more convenient models. Should be a cakewalk according to the doctors involved, but, as with all surgeries and anesthetics, there are risks. He's really worried about it,and his mortality, but is keeping a stiff upper lip as they say. Please keep him in your thoughts, and put in a good word if that's your desire. Thanks.

Ric, sorry to hear that he has to go back to the hospital. I will keep him and yours in my thoughts and prayers.
Is the new model that much more convenient, that it is worth the surgery?
I know that he likes racing, so if there's an event coming up get some tickets. Tell him about the day of racing you have planned for when he gets over the surgery and that should boost his spirits.

Yeah, it's worth the surgery. He needs his trache removed and replaced with a new one as the old one won't come out as it's supposed to, for changing(hygiene). Imagine a 1/4" plastic tube 18" long coming out of your belly with a hard plastic valve anf a 1/2" dis couplingon the end. Always getting pulled or caught in his shirt, painfyl. New one is a quick connect "button" that only protrudes about 5/16".You clip a hoseon it for feeding , meds, water, etc. Trying to improve quality of life for Eric as well as keep him healthy. Thanks.

My father had a feeding tube for his last 3yrs. He would keep it taped down, when not in use, so that it would not get hung up. The 1 you are describing would be alot easier to use. I hope the best for him.
