New .22 CFX questions
« on: June 22, 2007, 08:34:53 PM »
Got my new .22 CFX from Pyramid today and had a few questions for those of you who have also bought one from them:
#1 - The gun did not come with a scope stop and all my other Gamos did come with a stop. Did you get a stop with your .22?
#2 - My rotary breach is not chromed like on my .177 CFX. How about your new .22's?
#3 - The receiver is grooved on my gun with what looks like a .22 Rimfire spacing with a riser bolted onto these wider spaced groves
>>> What is the large screw on the rear and top of the riser for and can you get this screw to come out?
>>> Are the lower grooves on .22 Rimfire spacing and have you mounted a scope on them with Rimfire rings?
>>> Has anyone had any problems with the riser coming loose after the scope is mounted and the gun fired?
Thanks for the replies!!

Hi Bob

#1 No scope stop with mine either.  I don't think they use them with the new rail.

#2 MIne is not chromed either.

#4  I just used the rings that came with the gun.  I have had no slippage at all with the scope or the rings.
I did not try to disassemble the rail from the receiver so I can't help you on that issue.

Hope you enjoy your new CFX.

Hey, Bob,

1. The rings that came with the gun have a stop pin, I think that's why no seperate stop.
2. My breech isn't chromed either, more like a matte nickel finish.  There's also a burr right at the front.
3. I found the grooves on the reciever to be normal sized, the riser is undersized.  Had to remove it to use my rings.
That big screw acts as a stop pin for the rail.
Like I said, using my new Airforce rings, I had to remove the rail and mount to the receiver.  Didn't try other rings.
Since I took the riser off, I can't answer this one :-)!

Good luck!

Dave

Hey Bob,

No scope stop with mine either.

My breech is not chromed either, like Dave said it's like a matte nickel finish.

Dave is correct, the screw acts as the stop for the riser.

As for the riser itself,,,, my .177 CFX also has the same riser setup and I can tell you that it's been rock solid on the receiver since day 1 with no movement whatsoever.  I check it periodically but every time I check the screws are always rock solid tight.

Best of luck with the gun..   Mine is sittin down in my gun vise.  I installed a Golden Antler scope w/Accushot 2 piece medium mounts last night so I'm gonna let the loc-tite cure for 24 hours before I sight her in.  By the way,,, the rings that came with the scope/rifle actually look decent, but I had a couple pair of the Accushot rings lying on my supply shelf so I went with them.

They did away with the chrome because it was peeling away on some of the CFX's (i've seen alot that had some peeling) and also, it was cheaper to do. Actually the new one is better.

#1 - The Hole in the riser is for a stop pin.
#2 - Not on mine either. Wonder what it is made of and if I could polish it when I take it out.
#3 - The receiver is grooved like other Gamo receivers.
>>> As someone else said it fits into the stop pin hole in the receiver.
>>> Never used rimfire rings on anything but a rimfire.
>>> Not with the one on my Varmit Hunter. It also has the 4X32 scope on it that came with it.

We're at the mercy of marketing morons, Sean :-)!  What's really amazing is that we can suddenly get them at all.  The CFX was NEVER previously imported into the US in .22, and just about a year ago, GamoUSA announced that they would no longer be importing ANY .22 Gamo guns.  Or maybe we're dealing with a marketing genius here, it would be interesting to find out just how fast Pyramyd Air is selling these things.  I think part of the current demand is from people that feel the same way I do, they won't be available for long.  Either way, I don't care, I've got mine!  Looking forward to setting it up the same as the .177 I let my brother have, CDT trigger and a Theoben gas ram.  Plus maybe a couple of tweaks his didn't get, gotta stay a step ahead of the little bro :-)!  Later.

Seems everyone has answered your questions about scope mounting. I noticed the pellets I purchased ( Beeman FTS ) would not chamber completely. I first used the eraser on a pencil to force them in. After about a dozen the eraser broke off so I  took a piece of cold roll S.S. and ground a ball on one end. Works great, just something else to have to keep up with.

Mine has the -07 stamp also. The GAMO CFX and velocity values on top of the receiver are off center to the right. The butt pad is same as the one on my S1k with 7 holes vs. the cross hatch that holds pellets so well. Took it out today and shot some Wolverines through it 15.8 grains measured. Was shooting at 24 yards with the open sites at 1 inch orange dots. Shooting that way is like shooting without glasses for me since where I have to look through my glasses they are not corrected. All I can barely see is a fuzzy orange ball above the front red dot. Going to put the scope that came with it on it tonight and shoot some more tomorrow. Try some different pellets and chrony it as well.

Dave,

How did you get the receiver off?  It won't slide forward, because the grooves diverge, and I can't slide it backwards, because of the rubber cushion that I'm afraid to destroy by removing it.

I have a 15" 4-16X50 scope that I need to modify the riser for, and I can't really machine it on the gun.

Thanks!

-Ken
