Gene's bling-bling
« on: June 27, 2007, 07:24:47 AM »
A few weeks ago I recieved a package in the mail, that had a beautiful aluminum and delrin brake, with a brass insert in the end. I installed my new brake and went outback for a few shots, couldn't hardly hit the paper. I started to adjust the scope, incase it got bumped, but removed the brake first, to see if that did anything. Of course it did, started printing nice 1" 50yrd groups, put the brake back on and was lucky to hit the paper. I contacted Gene and asked about it, because it didn't appear to be going on all the way, it stopped about 2" from the end of the barrel. He said that on that 1 he made a chamber in the end that must be causing turbelance. He said that he would make another 1 the next day and send it. Also said that I could drill some holes in it and that may solve the problem. Now I know Gene was very busy at the time, because this was Wed before the shootout, so I was surprized to hear this. Thursday he broke a belt on his lathe and wasn't able to finish. Which was no problem for me, because I still had the other 1 that might be ok with a few holes added. Well Fri morning he mailed the new 1, to me was way over and beyond anything that could have been asked, I was in no hurry. I received it on Mon and it looked even better than the first, if not for the change in color it was seemless, absolutely beautiful. Now for the test, my tomohawks were printing there normal 1" 50yrd groups, I was quite pleased. I started running low on the hawks, so I switched to pro mags, they always grouped the same before, but not anymore, there better, cloverleaf at 50yrds. Needless to say I am very pleased with the outcome, not only did the accuracy improve with the the pro mags, but I also have very nice piece of bling-bling, that keeps my hands off of the barrel, so its easier to wipe down before putting it up.. Thank you Gene for a wonderful peice of craftsmanship and for going over and above anything that needed to be done at the time, it is very easy to tell that you take great pride in your work.  My only regret is that my camera is broke again, so I can't post any pics, but if you look down just alittle ways, you will see it, it's the 1 with the brass insert.

Thank you Mike for your kind words.. I felt bad about the brake that I originally sent you. And I know how you must of been disapointed when those pellets were going south on you..:) I would of cried.. hehe.  That particular brake was made with brass, delrin and aluminum. I bored the aluminum out but actually went to far, so where the brass was inserted back to the end of muzzle, there was a 3/4" space. I did not think anything of it untill after you called me and explained what was going on. It all turned out ok, it looks like and now you have a nice bling bling hangin off ur muzzle.... hehe

Gene, I haven't decided if I am going to drill a few holes, or drill deeper so it slides on farther. I'll let you know what I do and how it turns out. I was very surprized that you found the time, that quick to make another, besides I still had the 1 out of delrin to use. The problem I have now is, I have to get another rifle for the other brake, hehe.
