Refinished stock on QB-78
« on: July 01, 2007, 06:54:29 AM »
Well when I got my QB tuned from Mike Melick all was fantastic except the stock. It had a nice color, cherry stain but there were scratches from a bad sanding job. I'm sure this was from the factory so I took her down and went to work sanding and sanding. I got it nice and smooth and applied a light stain, I wanted to go lighter to get the QB to stand out more. Three coat's of stain etc. and four coat's of tung oil and the ol fine steel wool prep. I think she turned out good and the grain which is a simple pattern stand's out more. It also show's off Gene's shroud and brake well. 8)

The earlier models had a light colored stock like that, the wood working was quite primitive but it did look nice if you happened to get a good one. I lucked into an old model rifle with the light stock about a year ago, have kept it pretty much factory so it doesn't have the nice finish yours does but it shoots straight which is the main thing.........

That refinish looks sharp, what lies beneath sure does scare me looking at my QB's though.  Mike the 79 arrived safe and sound, I had a chance to shoot a few rounds yesterday with an airsource adapter.  It barks and sure does hit hard.  Tommorow I had hoped to shoot/plink at my buddies in Alpine CA but the darn weather has turned to 100F in the shade so not sure if I will be able to.  I had told Skyler to put my 392 on the back burner to help with his move so I may be down to my B3's.

Cheers
Mark

Yup I got lucky on the stock, I could see the decent wood under there and the QB doesn't get lost in the lighter stock. Ed
