Son's first cottontail
« on: July 06, 2007, 05:12:35 AM »
We got to the local mountains at 5:30  AM and my son took this cottontail about two hours later.  Saw quite a bit of quail, dove, one coyote, and we have seen some deer each morning we went this week.  Fun stuff.  The rabbit was taken with the Logun MkII, (got back the scuba tank this Thursday).

I still remember my first small game kill.  It was a grey squirrel that was racing through the tree tops in a thick pine forest.  Nailed him with a 12 gauge.  It was my first small game hunt and my dad was standing right next to me.  I can still remember him patting me on the back and congratulating me.  That was 38 years ago and I remember the details so vividly that it's like I'm watching a high def movie.   My moral is............. (and I know you already realize this)..........You are doing a wonderful thing making time to share such moments with your son.  Your post made me sit back and re-live the hunt with my dad 38 years ago,,,, Thank You !!   :)

Ed, he is getting into hunting and he is already a great shot.  He needs a rest, like shooting sticks, but he is doing great.  I am surprised how easily he wakes up at 4 AM.  I need two cups of coffee and 30 minutes to get with it, lol.

Oh now THAT gave me a good laugh.

I'm taking my oldest daughter (3 almost 4) out on "rabbit hunts" with me around the neighborhood about 3 times a week.

Congrats on your boy's first rabbit.  Looks like a great time.

Although, I think you're spoiling him a bit with such a nice gun as a first.  Hehehehe.

Great going David,

As the others have all said, you have made memories that you can't buy, and he will never forget !

His smile tells me he's a natural hunter :^)

And Great Photo too.
