I bought my g/f a gamo recon......
« on: July 09, 2007, 01:06:17 PM »
and she loves the gun because of the stock.  It has the thumb hole and  is very light weight.  Now she wants more stopping power out of it, but I am not sure what I can do to get more out of it.  On the box it says it does 525fps and I am thinking it does around 400 or so with gamo hunters.

Is there any way that I could maybe transplant the synthetic stock onto a more powerful gamo rifle?

Or am I stuck with it, or I could sell it to maybe find another air rifle that has the thumb hole stock and is still light weight.

Any help or suggestions would greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advanced.
QB-79 (.177), Walther Falcon Hunter (.22), Crosman Quest (.177)

As for a lite gun you could get a tuned QB78 and if you can find a thumbhole stock they are lite and are in the low 700's but they are CO2.  Archer carries the thumbhole but rarly in stock. Try stepping down to CPL's the cardboard boxed one's in the 1250 count or maybe FTS or trophy by beeman. They are a lighter may boost you a little.

I don't think it's possible with the recon stock. I was reading on another forum that I think doesn't like its name mentioned here, that rich from mich has one too and said it's difficult or something. I was interested since I have one. I emailed him about tuning it and he said it might put out 600fps after. I have been looking at the gamo nitro, but don't think it's needed right now. This recon can take squirrels at 30ft and is silent but deadly.

Forgot to mention the tune would be more than the gun is worth, so I'd be better off just buying the nitro 17, which is similar to the old gamo 850

I found a bit of it; reply to if recon stock will fit a CFX
"it will NOT, they did away with the rollers on the cocking lever. They now have a button imbeded in the stock under the cocking lever, no provisions for rollers in the stock."

On some yes just not sure about that one. I think the 440 and the viper can change so you may get lucky. My suggestion would be to take the recon out and measure the air chamber an trigger post it on here and see if some one has a more powerful gun with the same measurements. Could just call Gamo and ask to.

I think they have a similar stock setup, but the nitro is longer for a longer power plant, so I don't think it'd work. You'd have to locate rich from mich if he uses this forum, since he has both and is the one I found that info from. I don't think he's modified his nitro, but has done a few other ppls recons.
