Looking for dat gold
« on: July 11, 2007, 10:35:37 PM »
headed into a old gold mine in DeadWood. I set up my flashlight to get some pic's along the way, dark ain't the word for it and there's a sign at the enterance " Enter at your own risk". No gold, it was mined out many moon's ago except for ton's of fool's gold. I spent about two hour's in this mine and there are some area's theat are opened up to fit a house into. Ed

Gold!, Gold, Did someone say GOLD ?

Ya Ed, there's nothing like mining by the light of the shining GOLD !!!

Some mines have veins just feet or inches from the surface, some have dust or pyrite.

Ain't it great !......GOLD !!!! :^)

It get's better. I'm about a quarter of a mile in and the shaft turn's to the right but I spot this hole. They sometimes did test area's to see if there were sign's of a vein starting. Well you know what I did, head through the hole and so far there were no eyeball's shining back at me, that's a plus in here. :o Ed

Made it through and WOW! another huge cavern. Believe me it was so big that I tried to take a pic and between my flash and flashlight the pic was dark, just black void. I could see the reflection of fool's gold shining all around me and when looking around on the ground I came upon this. It's what's left of a very old wheel barrel, shovel and one miner's shoe. I cannot explain how jazzed I was just to be in here. Oh I forgot to mention, I did all this solo, the little lady would not come.....AT ALL! hehe. Ed

Man, too bad you didn't find a pouch filled with double-eagle gold coins!  Sounds like you had a great time exploring.  The local mountains here, around Big Bear, had gold mining a long time ago and there are old mines scattered about.  I found one and started in, but I thought about getting bit by a rattlesnake back in there (no flashlight), so I made it a short exploration, lol.  Ed, sounds like a great time.
