Bay Area Squirrel or Rabbit hunt???
« on: July 23, 2007, 07:23:10 PM »
Anyone know of a decent place in the Bay Area to hunt bunnies or tree rats??? I think I've over hunted the nutters on my brother-in-laws property. I don't see near as many as I did 2-3 years ago.

Tehama county is the place to go, especially around walnut and almond orchards. I'm currently working on a few ranchers and will let you know of any that are attuned to the idea. Many won't allow firearms due to tree damage and safety concerns with their hired help, but air rifles seem to be less of a threat to them. I'll let you know what I find. Most will require full compliance with fish and game laws, and the season ends late winter. Some ranches are inundated with greys and are a depredation problem for the ranchers. I'll let you know what I find out from them.

WOW! Finally a reply! LoL  It's been so long I almost forgot about it!

Tehama County...WOOOOO, that's a long way from me!  Maybe... What area of Tehama? Closer to the Sac side or further out?

The orchards along both sides of the sac are lousy with mister bushy tail, along with ground squirrels. You did enter it in the norcal area, but I must admit it's not the Bay Area(about 240 miles from Hayward) Look at the map between Chico and Red Bluff, both sides of the river. I have breakfast with several ranchers once a week in Los Molinos, I'll keep you posted

Yeah... It is Nutter heaven, but kinda FAR away! I'd LOVE to go, but I just don't think it'd be possible right now.
