Help!!! Pellet Suggestions?

I have a new QB78 Carbine in .177 cal. I just picked up from Stephen Archer at the Baldwinsville (NY) Airgun Show and I need some ideas for the best pellets to use.
So far my experimentation has led only to disaster: 10 yard groups that are over 8". OUCH!!! Most are 4" or 5". Pellets are going into the next Zip Code! What a huge disappointment so far! Worst gun I have ever owned or used.
Gun seems to work fairly well mechanically, though the bolt is very stiff, but the accuracy is terrible so I need some suggestions for pellets to soothe this beast. I appreciate your help.

What pellets are you using now to get 8" groups? I personally like Crosman Premier Lites in my QB78D or any of the round headed pellets like RWS superdomes, Gamo pro magnums, Gamo hunters,Benjamin diablo's and JSB exacts. I would say I can get a group of about 1/2" on average at 25 yards. And most of the time when there are fliers it is my fault and not the gun. Fortunately I bought my gun from Flying Dragon Airguns.... Mike Mellick does a wonderfull tune on these QB series guns and his prices are very reasonable.

Couple of other steps as well:

Clean the barrel...even if you cleaned it when you first opened the box, clean it again.  The stuff they come preserved with holds on aggressivly.

Check all the screws...esp. the barrel mounting screw (the allen screw just in front of the breech).  IF you find any one of the screws to be loose, migh consider taking the barrel off to check the breech screw (which can't be seen until; the barrel is removed).

Chances are that yur local offerings of pellets are pretty slim....but don't ignore the WC pellets for testing and shorter range use.  May have to ordr pellets to get a good sampling of good quality pellets; in fact, the sample packs (that have a smaller number of several differenet pellets) might be ideal for you.

Did you talk to Stephen yet? They are great people and I'm sure he would help you in any way he can. Just curious did you purchase the gun untested (no gold service)? I bought one with the gold service and had it shipped and not a problem. I would try calling him.

Check your barrel band strap. make sure the screw is snug but not real tight. They break real easy.. So be careful. I think Sam on the forum had a problem similiar to yours and it was the floating barrel that was getting bumped and would be way off. Maybe he will chime in with some help..

Try any round nose pellet. Like john said the crosman premir lites, I personaly prefer crosman pointed hunting pellets. Shoot excellent in my QB...

I discovered the problem. When I was buying the gun I was talking only about a .177 caliber while amidst the noise and bustle of the Baldwinsville Airgun Show, Stephen Archer was thinking .22 caliber (and the only carbine he had left was a .22). So what he gave me to take home was a .22 gun while I thought it was a .177.
See where this is going??? I was putting .177 pellets in a .22 gun. Naturally they were spraying all over the place!
The upshot is that with one phone call to Archer Airguns, they are going to exchange the .22 for the expected .177 gun.

Might have made a good scatter gun. hehehe. Glad to hear you figured it out. It's so easy to over look the obvious. I did it on my last service call today. I ran all over the store looking for a problem and it was in the panel  right in front of my nose. Have fun with you new toy.

Easy enough to admit...esp. as we don't really know eachother and aren't face to face...but I once got out to the rifle range (certerfire) with 30-30 ammo and a .32 Special...and sat there for quite some time wondering why i couldn't hit jack-sheep.
