Gamo 440

I want to thank everyone for posting the Natchez bargain info on the 440.  I had been leary of buying another break barrel in my price range after the Benjamin Legacy was such a disappointment.  I shot a few CPH's last night to see if it was going to diesel but everything seemed fine.  The rear sight is an oddity as it flops around randomly, I just taking the backlash out by lightly pushing it to the side till it met a detent style resistance.  The spring twang isn't bad and the kick isn't unreasonable either, no massive rotation effect like the Benjamin.  This AM I installed the GRT trigger and that made a world of difference.  I was able to keep it in 1" groups at 10 yards which is about as good as I can do with my eyesight and skill level in shooting with open sights.  The Benjamin I was lucky to keep it in 6".

When I had the action out it looked like the spring had allot more grease on it than I used on my B3's is it possible Gamo overlubed it?  It was probably made in 2003-2004 as the box's literature was from 2004.

The stock wood is very nice and will get one of Mike's fathers graphics on it next time I get a laser window time opening from Julie.   Hope everyones weekend is going to be as much fun as mine is.

And the stuff you're seeing on the action under the stock is likely the grease that lubes the slider block and roller under the cocking arm.

And I suspect that Gamo uses a better grade of lube than Shanghai (gee, ya think?)

You're right, the rear sight is pretty poor. That's the downside of the 440 - oddly enough the cheaper Shadow and 220 have a better (and non-interchangeable) rear sight. The front's the same.

I have two Gamo 440 and if you are shooting 1" at 10 yards, a good 6 power scope should solve your accuracy issues. I have a Leepers BugBuster 6X32 on my .177 CFX and have had no issues. the zero may drift a bit, but I check my zero farily often and rarely see the change being over 1/4" at 10 yards. I rather have no change but a Bushness 4200 Elite scope costs more that any of my air rilfes inclusing a tuneup by CDT and a trigger. The other cheap scopes from Simmons, Tasco, and Barska that I have bought are likely just a waste of money. I also encourage you to consider looking in our GTA Library and trying out the ideas for better springer accuracy. Try several things and be willing to go to 20 yards for your accuracy testing, you will not get many shots on game at 10 yards! Hope you stay in the air gun game!

I'm limited to 20 yards in my backyard and use it with the scoped rifles but even with 10 yards I have to use a pair of binoculars to check the last shot so 1" tells me the rifle is fine.  I'm limited to scopes to get anything out of a rifle but havn't decided yet if I want to get another bug buster or a golden antler for this 440.  It had been awhile since I counted them but I have accumulated quite a few air rifles now as the 14 gun rack is full and I have a few others lying about.  I became leary of inexpensive break barrels with that Benjamin Legacy purchase as I had no problems with the underleaver B3s or my buddies Dianas.  The 440 with the GRT trigger has been a real pleasant experience.  Weird thing is aside from the Legacy I enjoy them all, I expect most here understand that though.
