Viper Express Shotgun/Rifle
« on: July 14, 2006, 06:09:39 AM »
Hello,
Doing a little search for a air powered shotgun I discovered the new product in the works from Gamo. This is interesting to say the least. It seems as if it will shoot pellets and shot shells. Does anybody have an advanced spy report or something of that nature? A good shotgun could allow hunting bird on the wing and that is quite popular here where I live.

My collection so far does not include a Gamo but I would like to plug that hole.

1978 Benjamin 347 12fpe with spring mod, no port work
2003 Crosman 1077 7.4 fpe with spring mod no port work
2006 Powerline 1000S 17.9 fpe trigger tune only

Will the 2006 Gamo Viper Express make it into my collection? I hope so, if not is there any shotgun out there in production?

I have yet to hear of anyone able to purchase the Viper, only advertisements for it. I am not sure that .22 shotshells are going to be at all effective out of that gun, or cost effective. There are no other air shotguns currently available (perhaps one of the Sharps from Florida importer might work, although last I hear they are unable to get the 9mm barrel's imported into the US).

In terms of an Air shotgun, as none are currently made, I would strongly suggest you try to find a Crosman1100, made back in the 60's. Are you familiar with those? IF not , I'll post a review of mine - but they are a HOOT to shoot, tons of fun - I use 9mm 56 gain pellets which are accurate (3 inch groups) out to about 35 (maybe 40 if pushing it) yards. Easily in excess of 20ftlbs at the muzzle. I also have a few of the orginal shells that I load up with either #6 or #12 shot - if I load them just right (takes a bunch of FUN experimenting), the shot stays in an 18inch pattern out to about 25 yards, certainly effective for small pest control.

I am currently seeking more orginal shotshells, fyi.

Let me know if you need more info on the 1100 - I have strong doubts that the Viper will ever be available, and if it is, if it will be anything other than a .22 pellet gun at additional cost (ie, useless in comparsion to the 1100 as a shotgun). I could be wrong of course :)

Was just browsing the Cabelas site and found this :
http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?rid=&indexId=cat20742&navAction=push&navCount=2&cmCat=MainCatcat20712&parentType=index&parentId=cat20742&id=0040376

The item is listed as "backordered" with an estimated restocking period of 1 week, of course we all know what those restocking estimates mean  :o

I personally have my doubts about the effectiveness of an air rifle shotgun, if I'm gonna shoot at moving targets I think I'd just use a regular shotgun, but then again, perhaps an air shotgun might be fun. Anyway, thought you might like to take a look.  Good shooting.    8)

At 7.99 for 25 shot shells it would be kinda pricey to shoot, maybe you could reload them and cut down the price a bit.

And a range of 10 yards or so how good would they be at killing what you hit ??

Not a GAMO, but appears to be a shotgun, pcp?  13mm....huhm, sounds fun!  Almost looks like a QB79 with a big barrel?

9mm pellets you are talking about. (it shoots the 375 round balls pretty good and they weigh 85 grains) Exactly what are they and where can i get some of these 56 grain 9mm pellets? also what are the costs involved and does anybody sell a mound to make something like this? maybe at 40 -45 grains weight? Uping the velecity a bit by lessing the weight but still lkeeping the power of a medium bore. great idea! thanks for any information you can also e-mail me at jmlv175@msn.com

Seems to me that a Springer or even a PCP in a small caliber shotgun would be kinda dumb. How far out could those little pellets go..? It would seem to me that maybe ten yards would be the max for killing anything. If you were a good sneaky hunter you may be able to sneak up on your bird or rat withing ten yards..:) I know a regular shotgun the pattern spreads considerably at 30 yards but the Air Rifle does not even come close to the power of a shotgun........

We will just have to wait and see what damage that Gamo shotgun does..

That is just my opinion
