Hey CDT! CFX tight chamber?
« on: August 05, 2007, 09:58:41 AM »
Hey CDT,
I will be sending my new .22 CFX to you soon. The chamber is so tight that it is hard to seat the pellets witihout a tool. I don't like the damage the tool does to pellet skirts and if you do not use something to push in most pellets, the skirts get nicked when you rotate the level closed. Is this something you can fix while the gun is apart for a tune and trigger (the stock Gamo unit is the worst tirgger  I have ever seen on a gun)?

What pellets are you using mate?
Same thing happens with mine with cheap pellets. The Skirt sizes differ and I have had no problems at all with good quality pellets like H&N (Beeman), JSB, RWS and Crosmans.

I am using RWS SuperDomes, Crossman Premier Lights and JSB Predators and all are a too tight fit. It may be that the breach trough is not shaped right and is not allowing the skirt to pass which is the widest part of most pellets.

Hey Bob... is it actually the pellet port or is it that the loading trough is not in alignment with the port when inserting the pellet? It's not uncommon to see the rotating breech rotate past the port by a couple thousandths making it difficult to insert a pellet. I've even seen one that didn't rotate quite enough. Slightly moving the rotation as you insert a pellet will tell you.

Hey Bob PBJ,

I have the same problem with my .22 CFX. It loads Beeman Crow mags ok 60% of the time, and it handles Diablo Jumbo Match's pretty well. Forget predators and Daisy's better pellet. I am gonna try superdomes next.

I did what Tuna Bob said above, and for me, it's not a roatation issue of the breech. (I forgot to thank you for that trouble shooting tip Bob, thank you :) )

Same here. I guess this is normal for the CFX's, you just can't push the pellets all the way in with your finger  because of the rotary breach. I used Gamo Hunters and Superdomes so far and both are a PITA to load. I use a wooden pencil with broken lead to push the pellets all the way in without damaging the surrounding areas.

The loading of the CFX is the one of the main reasons I'm looking into break barrel in .22 as groundhogs, squirrels and crows laugh at me as I jump for my gun and waste 30 seconds loading it and when I'm ready they're long gone...

I will put on the zillion focal glasses and look again. It may be over or under rotated but I think the breach is just too tight. The trough may be a bit high also. I have seen this part polished out and the small tool marks gone that cause the pellet to trip into the backwards presentation postion.
