Gamo Compact - 1st Impressions on my new Air Pistol
« on: August 06, 2007, 01:07:50 PM »
I recently bought one of these from the classifieds. I've been aware of them for some time but just could'nt persuade myself to buy one at the list price. but the used one i found was at an excellent price($150 shipped!!) Thuis i ended up the new owner of one of these guns.
The pistol arrived in todays mail so I have had all afternoon to play with(and shoot) it.
I must say I was impressed.  I'm fonding that I am likeing the gun a great deal.
The gun was phy larger than i thought it was from the pictures i had seen. perhaps it was the bulk of the grips.  Which felt surpriseingly good as a matter of fact but the thumbrest may need some slight adjusting. the Pistol remonded me of an oplder Gamo I once owned, It was a lead ball shooter (a 10 shot repeater too) and was pretty accurate as well as being a SSP pistol.
I used 2 type of pellets in the gun Gamo wadcutters and Milboro select domes both proved to be able to shoot classic one hole groups shooting from a 1 hand rested position with the Compact. Groups were about the size of a penny but I can't say how many shots were in each group since I was mainly just shooting for fun. Shooting is straightfoprward for anybody who has shot an SSP designed postol befour( I have several) and they left sufficent room at the end of the barrel to make pellet loading easier than on other designs. All together i put a bit over 100 rounds through the gun this afternoon some at targets others at my gamo knockdown trap(or knock up in the gamos case). All in all I am pleased to finually add this gun to my Air Pistol collection. While i don't consider it worth its asking price for a new gun(you can get other good, accurate just as powerful pistols for half the price some for even less) but as a used gun for a good price its definately worth adding to your collection.

PS: If anybody has a spare owners manual for one of these I could use one. thanks

Good going Jim,

Not only did you win the classified shuffle, but you got a good pistol!

Glad you like her, and another fellow posted some mods for the Compact, to make the trigger adjustments more positive.

Best of luck,
