Alright, here's the situation:
« on: August 14, 2007, 07:25:23 AM »
I'm just an addict, trying to get my fix, But my Dad wont go for it. I am trying to get the Gamo Whisper, but he always says, "How many rifles can you shoot at 1 time?" And I tell him 2, one in each hand, lets get the Whisper :p He hasn't given in. Any ideas on convincing him?

Try asking him if he will pay for half you can earn the other half bydoing chores orsomething, stuff around the house he wants done. Or you could get a job somewhere.

Yep tell him that it is a fun sport and he might enjoy it. You have done some research and the whisper is an excellent rifle, for such a wonderful dad. Then when he gets the cravings also you can tell him about the other great rifles to be had. Then if your real lucky and do some extra chores around the house, he might decide that he wants to find out about the dark side, hehe. :o

Tell him that the 220 makes tons of noise compared to this New quiet like gun called the Whisper, and that with it, you could even moonlight as a pest control guy.  Making money (legally) always impresses the folks.....    I dont know if you want to mention that airguns, as an addiction is alot less expensive than drugs.  :emoticon:

Just ask your dad, would you rather I stay home and play with air guns or go out and get hooked on drugs, join a gang, etc..

If that does not work, beg.  :)

Hee...Hee.... I have talked to both Randy and his dad a couple of times on the phone in the past. I think his dad is just as addicted as Randy is when it comes to shooting. I talk to Randy and his dad is plinking at a steel target in the background and I can hear him hitting the target hitting ... won't give the gun up...lol...

Randy.... the solutions is...convince him ya both need a gun and you can compete and have fun together...and you can trade off..

As my mother in law keeps telling my wife after every purchase," At least he isn't spending money on prostitutes, drugs or in bars." At least my mother in law understands me. As for airguns being cheaper than drugs, thats debatable. If your hobby doesn't cost you a lot of money, then you're not trying hard enough. HAHA

Making money at hunting....Hmmm, reminds of the saying "The best way to make a small fortune is to start with a large one."

Hate to be a drag, speaking with my "mom" hat on, I'd say get a part time job Randy. I had part time jobs in high school starting at age 15. That's the best way to impress your dad about how enthusiastic you are about our sport. Perhaps if he sees that commitment and dedication from you he'll be more likely to pitch in and help.

Being a dad Randy,

I shouldn't be helping you :-)

But tell him you want to spend some "REAL" quality time with him, and that you would very much enjoy his company while shooting ! And how this activity will bring you both together, and how much he'll love it too !

Let him know about the knock down targets and animal silhouettes that you both can shoot, together, as a team !

I don't know if this will work on him, but it would work on me...:^)

I'm gonna try the one that doesn't mean I need a job;) If i get a job, It would be counter productive, as I would pay more in car insurance than I'd make at minimum wage, part time. I am also on the speech team, so I have very little free time during the fall season, between that and hunting.

Thanks though guys (and gals) My Dad saw those targets, and I almost convinced him into it, but he was stingy there too :( I think I got my mom into getting that though, as its an alternative to a real squirrel. She hates the idea of hunting. I think its a matter of time, but which will happen first, I get the Whisper, or have a withdrawal. lol.
