GTX trigger/Charlie tune 22 cal 220
« on: July 18, 2006, 02:33:26 AM »
I don't know if anyone has published a review of the GTX trigger and or a charlie tune but I thought I would.  I bought a 22 cal 220 a while back and tried taking it out and shooting it some.  I'd never owned a springer, having mostly shot rimfires.  I read lots of internet stuff about how to shoot them but it never really sank in and I stood the gun in a closet and left it. It just wasn't working for me.  It was inconsistant and hard to shoot, the trigger was long, rough and lousy.

Still, I liked the idea of airguns and thought to buy another but was shocked at how expensive "good" ones are I could by a nice rimfire and a hell of a lot of ammo for that that money.  After reading some more I decided to get a Charlie tune.  That was the best $ I ever spent on a gun.  This is especially true of the trigger which has to be about the best money you can spend on shooting as far as value goes.

The tune made the gun much more manageable way less twang and twist and much smoother cocking.  It turened it from something that felt like a toy in it's construction and operation to a "real rifle".  The tune moved the 220 from the closet  gun safe. It will actually shoot well now.  I really enjoy shooting it more than my rimfires as it's quieter and very accurate for plinking.  I mostly shoot used shotgun shells at 33 yards with it just using upen sights, though I may scope it. I also like how quiet it is.  No earplugs and the birds keep chirping while I shoot.  Last time I had it out and Owl flew over low and landed nearby.  That would never happen with a rimfire.

The trigger is the best part.  It's the best trigger on any gun I own.  I do not like no creep triggers.  I like some travel before break.  The GTX has very nice and extreamly smooth take up and a crisp break.  Creep is nice becuase it sort of prevents the desire to "squeeze off the shot" and I also like the feel of taking up some slack when aiming.  Coming up in the break and being "into the shot" that is activlely aiming and shooting engenders that sense of calm and concentration that makes for good shooting.  I know that the creep can be adjusted out with the GTX but I for one dont want to.  The important thing is that the take up is so smooth and even.  There's no notchieness to distract I think this is due to the vary smooth hard surface of the GTX. It would take a lot of polishing to make a stock trigger like this if you ever could.

All in all I am happy with the tune and trigger.  I cost almost as much as the gun did new but it was very worth it especially as I already had it laying around.  I'd reccomend it to anyone.

Yes the GTX brings a whole new meaning to Gamo after it is installed, especially after shooting a while with the stock Gamo trigger. I to sent my first Gamo to CharlieDaTuna for a Turbo Tune and GTX trigger. I had been shooting the S1k for a month or so stock out of the box. :) I thought to myself.. Its got to better than this..:) Then after finding CharlieDaTuna I contacted  him as well.

CharlieDaTuna is an exceptional individual and I don't think all air gun smiths take it one step further like Charlie does. He has all the tools of the trade in his shop, and I might add very organized and clean.

Well after that first tune and GTX trigger, I have bought 7 more Gamo's and all but two have been touched by Charlie. As soon as he has time, I will be bring them over for that magic touch. :) The CFX Royal .22 that I bought from UK keeps calling Charlies name... he he...It has not been touched or fired yet.. It will get the new GRT-III Trigger....... :)

All my Gamo Air Guns, I do targets with them and shoot squirrels, and I am very pleased at the performance of all of them..
