?about photo editing
« on: August 19, 2007, 06:26:11 AM »
I've got a new computer and now I can't edit photos, to have a small enough file size to post. I've tried to put my other software on this puter, but it's not compatable with vista. I turned the resolution down as low as it will go on my camera, crop pic, resize to 640x480 and the file size is still way too big. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks Howard, but I'd rather not do my editing online.

Check out Irfanview it's free and can be as simple or invovled as you wish, although not quite Photochop involved:

Ok, I've tried 4 differant editing softwares, no luck. I've lowered the mp on the camera, tried croping on the camera,no luck. Pics are in jpeg format, I've resized them down to 640x425, cropped from there, then cut in half,no luck, still too big. Anyone got any ideas? I'm lost.

Are you setting them at 72dpi, Mike?

It was set at 72, then I lowered it to 60. Do I need to go lower?

So it's a Vista and software issue Mike? Here is a list of Vista compatible freeware programs. Maybe you can find somethign in this list:

Also how about Google's Picasa? It's a bit quirky to resize pics, but it should be Vista compatible and is free as well: http://picasa.google.com/

I'm to lazy (or technology challenged) to try and resize them, so I just post them on photo bucket and post the links here.

I have a few differant programs that are compatable, but I can not get the file size down enough. On my old computer where I could get a pic down to say 75kb, on this one the same pic in the same format and size will be 250-300kb.
