CFX Royal .177 Re-Visited
« on: August 24, 2007, 12:48:18 PM »

There are not a whole lot of these CFX Royals around. At least not as many as the synthetic stock version. I am thankful that I own three of the Gamo CFX's with different stocks and calibers. My second CFX Roya was purchase via the UK, where I special ordered it in the CFX_Royal .22 version. The first CFX Royal .177, I purchased from Midsouth along with my CFX Synthetic .177. All three of these Gamo's have proved without a dought to besome of the best shooters that I own.

I took out my CFX Royal .177 yesterday to stretch it's legs and put a new Simmons 4-12X40 AO AirPro scope with accushot mount. I proceeded to remove the factory brake assyembly and replace it with one of my custom made CFX Aluminum Muzzle brakes. After about 5 minutes of setting the scope up and sighting it in, I was shooting one holers at 40 yards.

I took some pictures of the CFX Royal for those of you who have not seen one before. They truly are a fantastic shooter and kinda purdy with the wood stock..:) I know Dano can appreciate the wood..:)

She sure is pretty with all that wood Gene. I wish Gamo still offered us the choice betwen wood and synth. stocks on the CFX.

You need to show me some pics of your S1K in .20 again, so I can get the hots for it and figure out how to talk you out of it.......   8)

Well Paul, the Peak gots some good tastes buddy..:) She wants me to sell her my .20 S1K real bad, but I am holdin tight.. hehe... The thing is that it would be a perfect shooter for her, being that she tends to lean towards the lighter springers.. But so do I so I ain't lettin loose just yet..:)

Jason

A completly different feel than the S1K. Being a solid wood stock it absorbs most of the recoil. Not at all hold sensitive. Shoots in the mid 800's or a bit lower. Have not put it on the chrony since CDT tuned it a year ago but that is the FPS that I remember. And another good point is that it is not that heavy, even with the scope. Maybe 7 1/2 lbs. It is one of Gamo's nicest shooters.

i like the m-break as well i went thru a number of designs and still have not come up with the one i like but the one on that there cfx looks great good job. question did you attach the small retainer for the underlever or did you machine the entire piece with it on there. i don't own the mill which is holding me back from a couple ideas but my latest is looking real good and it will be unvailed when i finish the new LW barrel in three weeks and today i made a test run on the lathe from scratch to see if i could duplicate the threads and machining to the end of the barrel and i am proud to say that YES I CAN.As well as i am taking your advice Gene about the gas ram for the cfx, i removed it and will be going back to the spring which is already here and ready to go. i also expiermented with the rotary breech and actually made one less the pellet slide and it is sitting on the bench until more thought can be put into it again the mill is much needed for that but my intent is to come up with a different method of seal instead of the dreaded o-ring that fails.

I, too, have 3 CFXes - One .22 cal. Royal; one .22 cal. synthetic; and one .177 cal. synthetic.  The two synthetic stock CFXes have the Theoben gas rams and are very sweet shooters.  The Royal has an Air Venturi gas ram, but it takes more cocking effort and doesn't shoot as fast as the Theoben gas ram.  They all have JM seals and eventually will have Theoben gas rams.

Gene, that muzzlebreak looks awesome.  Is that Delrin?  Can you send me the dimensions for it so I can turn them out on my lathe?

BTW, I only bought my Royal from Pyramydair a few months ago when they were $199.99 (less with discount code).  It had the metal trigger as did all my other CFXes, which have since been upgraded.
