Very Hot Duck Farm Hunt
« on: August 26, 2007, 04:22:03 PM »
Took the R-9 Goldfinger .177 to the duck farm for an afternoon hunt today but it was so brutally hot and humid that there wasn't a critter stirring anywhere to shoot at.  I did see 2 G-hogs dining in the shade, but no way to get close enough for a shot.  Even the ducks were hiding in whatever shade they could find.  Even the starlings were totally absent today.

Ran into one of the owners while he was driving around checking things out and we got to talking.  He told me he's been having a problem with rats the size of small cats in a couple of the breeder barns at night, so I have to plan a couple of night rat hunts.  Right now I have my laser/light combo mounted on my synthetic stocked Winchester 1000, but I may remount it on one of my QB78-D's for the rats.

Will post some pics if I can manage to nail any rats.

Jeff

That would be cool. I've never seen a rat that big around here. I always wondered how you hunt rats with an Airgun, so I can't wait to hear some stories.
Current weapon of choice: Betsy, my Turbo Tuned Gamo Hunter 220.177 with the GRT III Trigger.

Your a helluva a man Jeff,

I mowed the lawn yesterday in that heat, came in and took a shower and a nap !!! hehe...he

I don't know how you deal with that unbearable heat and humidity, I know I had a hard time breathing yesterday. I afraid I'm with the starlings on days like that !

Looking forward to the night rat hunt, and wish you lots of luck !

Thanks Bill,,,, yeah, yesterday was a tough one.  The heat and humidity at the farm was awful and by the time I got home I was wiped out for the day !!  Spent the rest of the day takin it easy :)

Just got home a few minutes ago from taking the wife for a 2 hour boat ride out on the bay, God it was beautiful out there, actually a little cold with the wind comin off the ocean.  Gonna rest for about an hour and then head to the farm and try and bag a G-hog for dinner.  My plan is to set up in a good sniping location, sit and wait em out :)

Will post pics if I connect.
