I hadn't shot my .22 cal B26-2 in a while so I took it out early this afternoon and got in some target practice. I had the gun sighted in for CPL's but I decided to re-sight it in for Predators. After about 10 minutes had the predators shootin nice dime sized groups. I locked down the scope turrets on the Leapers 3x9x50 and decided to take the gun over to the duck farm and let her hunt.
Got to the farm around 4 pm and noticed that a bunch of the farm workers were out in the pens working. With all that activity the chances of seeing any G-hogs would be slim so I headed down the road to the smaller duck farm where the breeder ducks are kept.
I was only half way down the dirt road when I noticed something moving in the grass about 30 yards ahead of me. I stopped and put the scope to my eye. It was a young G-hog munching away on young grass shoots. He would eat a few stalks of grass and then move ahead a few feet and he was working his way in my direction so I just froze where I was and waited. Sure enough he worked his way to a small patch of grass just 10 yards in front of me and I had a .22 caliber predator waiting for him. The pellet slammed home with a "WHOMP" and the little G-hog slumped down never to move again. When I retrieved my future dinner I could see he was a very tender, very young G-hog, probably the reason he hadn't noticed me,,,,, just to inexperienced at survival. Put him in my game pouch and moved on.
I wound up nailing 3 starlings at 35 yards while hiding in a barn and shooting out a window. There were so many starlings I could've stayed at that window all afternoon and had constant shooting, but I really didn't want to waste any more of my precious (and expensive) predators on the yellow beaks so I moved on and continued my search for another G-hog. I'll head back tomorrow afternoon with the .177 B26-2 and get in some serious starling hunting :)
I hunted until 7 pm and did see several other G-hogs, but just couldn't get close enough for a shot. Well, there was one really large G-hog that I did sneak to within 35 yards of, but he was standing right next to his burrow so I opted not to shoot. If he didn't go down right away I knew he'd make it down the hole,,, so I left him for another day. Took a couple of pics, hope ya like em.
