Slo/mo and real-time clips. Headshot on a ground squirrel.

Here's the same clip running back to back. Real-time first and slo/mo last. Things happen so fast in real-time that a lot of what happened is missed.

Notice in the slo/mo clip the second "THWOCK" immediately after the "THWACK" of the pellet connecting with the squirrels head. That is the sound of the pellet hitting a tree behind the squirrel right after it passed through the furball's skull. Didn't even notice it in the real-time clip.

I'm shooting the FX Whisper in this clip. The ammo is the .22 cal., DYNAMIC 14.5 grain tin alloy pellet, and the squirrel is just under 70 yards away.

I have the digicam mounted on the gun, (actually on the scope) using a mount that I made out of stuff I had laying around. I run the camera with my left hand and take the shots with my right. The ability to multi task is definitely useful. I'm using an iMac computer. At the end of the day I upload the videos from the camera to iMovie, which is included with the iMac, and do my editing. I can then post a video clip on my video hosting web site, (Imageevents) and from there post the videos in my threads on the various forums that I hang out at. Hope this helps.

I can't figure out whether the squirrel jump and back  up or pushed back by the impact?
looks like the bugger was blown off the stump

Watch the slo/mo version closely and you'll hear the pellet connect with the squirrels head, at the same time you'll see a bunch of dust blow off it. These guys live in holes in the ground and are pretty dirty. The pellet causes its head to whip over to the right, and the rest is just muscles jerking from the impact and it launches backwards off the stump.

Seventy yards is a pretty good shot.  Do you use shooting sticks?

dw, all of my shooting is done standing from a Stoney Point telescoping bipod. If at all possible, I also use a close by tree to rest my right shoulder against. It gives me a nice solid five point rest.

Thank you for the reply.  My best shots have been leaning against something, but I have been using some homemade shooting sticks lately.  They work great for hunting, but don't seem to be that great for shooting targets.  Just need to shoot a lot more I think.

That, quite frankly, was one helluva shot!

Hey Jon, thanks. The AA410ERBSL should be here today or tomorrow. I've already got an MTC Viper 4X16X50MM with BKL mounts ready to go. I'm hoping to get out this weekend and get her sighted in. I'll let you know how it goes.
