Dove hunting but hehe
« on: September 02, 2007, 09:47:34 AM »
I decided to take a walk out to the grove of tree's and see if I could grab myself some Dove for dinner. I grabbed the 2240 and a tin of Predator's and headed out and about halfway out I thought that I should have grabbed one of my airrifles. Dove hunting with a pistola is not lawful but I was almost to the grove so I switched tactic's, squirrel's!. As I entered the shade of the tree's it felt nice, it's about 88 deg. today and with the shade on me I worked my way through the cover. Tree to tree and slowly without any sudden movement's I went along when I notice a movement to the side of me and out at about 15yrds. I turned slowly and sure enough I spotted this guy up in the tree cleaning himself, getting ready for his big date hehe. Pulling up the 2240 with a Predator already chambered I flipped on the red dot and clicked the safety off. He hadn't noticed me as I placed the red dot on the side of his head and sent the Predator away. Hearing the sound of the impact I watched him tumble from the limb and hit the turf, he spun himself around for a few but the headshot in the sweetspot shut him down quickly. Not a Dove but he'll do. Thank's Jeff, it's funny I'd been watching the dove all day landing in the tree's out in the grove and I ended up with the 2240 in one hand and a nutter in the other. :) Ed

Well Roald came up to my place today to do some shooting. I had told him friday that I was gonna take out a bush in the backyard and open up a 35 yard shootin lane. Well he showed up this mornin and we set up a tarp off the back of his minivan over our shootin table for some shade and commenced to shootin shoot-n-see targets and paintballs ala Gene's golf tee idea. Dove #1 dropped into the shooting lane while I was shootin my QB and I thwacked it in the shoulder, pellet went all the way through. It was a profile shot and it was to the point. Dove #2 landed in the shootin lane while I was shootin Roald's B40. I hit it once and it strolled beneath a treebush to the left of the shooting lane so I loaded another pellet into the B40 and finished the job. Roald got a starling at about 30 yards out of the big oak in the very back of my yard with his B40 also. We had a decent day shootin and eatin but we also had some disappointments. Roald brought up his new Hammerli 850 airmagnum and he started having probs with it lowering in velocity till it was almost useless out to 35 yards. It went from shootin 750 fps down to a low of about 400 FPS. We cooled the gun off in the a/c inside the house but it only came back up to about 550 fps so he was a bit bummed about that. And then Roald figured something out for me. Hmmm about a month or so ago I ordered some pellets from pyramid air, I got 4 tins of destroyers and 2 boxes of CPL's. Well as it turns out the CPL's arent CPL's they are CPH's. I wasnt happy considering now I have about 2300 CPH's in boxes that are clearly printed CPL's. We didnt have a scale but Roald had brought some CPL's and we compared them and my pellets were bigger and longer. Then we chronied some kodiaks that are spose to be around 10.5 grains and my supposed CPL's were shooting slower than the kodiaks lol. So I will be making a phone call to Pyramid air on tuesday to find out what the dealio is. Unfortunately we didnt take any pictures of the days hunting because we were both *_*_*_*_*_*ing and whining about the screw ups of pellets and the new Hammerli lol. But we did have a good time for the most part.
