feeling like a caveman!
« on: September 02, 2007, 01:33:18 PM »
~10am I look out the window and one of these fuzzy tails is raiding the bird feeder.  Opened the window, grabbed the Crosman Quest .177, put in a crosman premier pellet, looked through the scope, aim, squeezed the trigger....boom.. it fell off the tree... but.. WTH!!!!
As I rub my eyes in disbelief it starts to crawl around  it's two front feet with the back dragging behind.  Goes for about 5-8 and stops cold.  meanwhile I have put in another pellet and cocked the rifle just in case.  I  waited a minute. no movement.  Put the gun on the side and go to the yard to dispose of it before the nosy neighbors start peeking... Now. I don't like grabbing them so I first go to the shed to get the shovel to pick it up.  by the time I get the shovel and go to the spot, he's disappeared into the bushes.. I tell myself.. crap, what do I do now.. the damn thing is crawling toward the neighbors house (pretty fast I should mention), I don't have my rifle and by the time I get it,  it would be gone.  crap!  I can NOT have a two legged squirrel crawling around neighbor's yard looking like a lizard.
So i'm thinking... what do I do?... well...  looked deep into the the primal parts of the brain and imagined what our rifleless-cave occupying forefathers would have done, if they had a shovel..and.. well.. not wanting to be too graphic I'll end by saying that  it didn't make it to the neighbors house.

lesson of the story?

be damn glad I don't have mammoths raiding the bird feeders

Don't need lizard squirrel's crawling around hehe and we wouldn't want a injured animal suffering more then it has to. Good story and if you can post a pic of your next hunt with that sweet shovel hehe. Again welcome, we have a great family of airgun junkie's here. Ed

Thanks for a nice visualization of the back yard story.
Just for grins, I bet that ED (shadow) could help you out with a nice CAMO job for that shovel.
I just could not resist saying that.
I enjoyed the post.

I dont know if any of you have been paying attention to the geico tv commercials on tv with the caveman theme, but those just crack me up. When I read this post all I could think of was the main character caveman in the commercial shooting the squirrel and seeing his facial expressions when the squirrel started crawling off. Not saying that you remind me of the caveman RJS its just that I like the commercial so much any time I hear the word caveman that is what comes to mind hehe. I cant remember who made the post about it but someone else saw a nutter but didnt have an airgun and I had suggested a tireiron. There is more than one way to skin a uh umm tree rat.... so easy a caveman can do it lmao.

LOL- Funny stuff there, John! I like those caveman commercials too, even though I've seen 'em a hundred times.

You camo'd it so good you can't find it    :)  You'll have to wait for the next snowfall for it to be seen again.

RJS,

Welcome to GTA. Just remember, if you DO have trouble with mammoths in the bird feeder... get a bigger shovel!

Great story!
