... they are actually fake birds.  Quite by accident last week I happened to find a local store that had these in stock so I bought every one he had.  Best part was they were really cheap too  :)

Jeff

Cool idea, Jeff!! I'll bet it'll work great. My question is what kind of a local store carries those kind of lifelike (but fake) birds?

Hey Bryan,

Believe it or not I found them in a craft store called "Michaels".  I think they are actually a chain store.  They have just about anything and everything related to whatever kind of "crafts" you are into.  It's a pretty cool store, even though the customers are 99.9 % women, and I go there every once in a while to look around and see what I might need.  They also have a great supply of fake flowers, leaves, etc, stuff like that which work great as camo stencils.   The check out girl looked at me kinda funny when I put all those birds on the counter, but I didn't let it bother me.  :)

Jeff,

This store you were at.... Did they happen to have any owls for sale too? I have a problem with crows in the area and I know that if there was a decoy owl which looked as realistic as those starlings I would have crows falling out of the trees left and right!

Hey Ron,

No, didn't see any owls.  I think cheaperthandirt.com   and  also sportsmansguide.com has plastic owls decoys for a good price.  The better owl decoys have heads that move in the wind to give it a sense of realism.  We have a few of them set up in the marina I have my boat it,,,,, it keeps the seagulls away from the boats.

I can't believe I didn't build one of those yet.  Do you have sound recordings to go with that?

Great! There's a Michaels about 20 miles away. I believe I'm gonna have to pay 'em a visit next time I'm in the area  ;~)

Thanks, Jeff.

Now that is a great hunter thinking. There is a Michael's shop near me that I need to visit this fall. Jeff, add some Starling sounds and you will be in THE STARLING ZONE this fall. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Ron, I stopped by the nearest Michaels on my way back home from a long weekend out of town (I was able to spend a great afternoon with my brother walking some tin cans across his back-yard with the CFX .22 and Beeman P-17; he doesn't shoot airguns much but he said he couldn't believe how nice and smooth the GRTIII trigger felt. If that ain't a testimonial, I don't know what is- I've 'bout got him hooked!) to see if I could find the stuffed starlings. They had them on sale for half price- I think they were $4.99 regularly. I didn't see any owls, but they had some amazingly good looking crows, also half price at $5, so I got a couple of those and a few starlings.

I hope to report positive results soon.

Bryan
