but I thought I would share anyway. I've been working on this for awhile now and got it down enough to test out this morning. There's 1 spot on the inside of the foregrip that I have to sand down, rubs slightly when cocking, other than that all seems ok. Fit and feel is almost perfect for me, just a little more shapeing, final sanding and finish. I'm still trying to decide how I want to finish off the end of the foregrip, any ideas? I am going to replace the peice of rosewood on the bottom of the grip with another shape. The end of the butt will get several coats of bedliner paint for a pad, when it's finished.

Thanks guys. I haven't decided on what finish I'm going to use yet. I did a test with 4 stains and just clear, but it all looks good. I was surprised that the wood looked as good as it did, it had about 1/8" of crud on it when I got it.

Well that sounds even better, for both of us,hehe. I'll see what I can make with it and send you one. I just started carving on a plywood laminate blank, that I glued up awhile back, and it is going to look sweet, think it may find it's way on a CFX,hehe.

Well this one got put on the back burner for a while. I decided a few days ago that it was time to get-r-done. I still haven't decided on what would look best for a final shape on the end of the forearm, suggestions please. I have decided that it will get finished with several coats of Teak Oil, on the bare wood. I'm open to all suggestions on which direction this project needs to go.

Thanks Ed and the grain will really pop when the oil is applied. I was very surprised at how light this mahogany is, it's lighter than the factory syn.

Hi Mike looks great what kind of wood ,I never thought of making the trigger guard as part of the stock, nice touch as far as a finish I'm a stain and varnish man myself about 10 to 12 coats of varnish sanded between coats you can cheat for the first 4 coats catch the window about an hour between coats and recoat when you can feel that the last coat is not tacky any more and recoat let it set over nite and fine sand with 302 or 400 and recoat again 4 more coats then sand and 2 more coats then sand and 1 coat till all the pores in the wood are filled with varnish and the final coat will look like a plastic covered stock using gloss if you think it is too shiney use pumice or rotten stone and lemon oil to bring the shine down as far as you like makes a real nice finish if you scratch it a light sanding with 400 and recoat it fixes it right up. howie

Thanks Howie, it is Honduran Mahogany with some Rosewood accents. I tried a few different finishes on some scrap and found that Teak Oil alone looked the best, on this piece. Shellac works great for filling the grain also.

I will put on one more coat, later today and let sit for a day. Then do a light sand with some 400gt and put on a few more coats. I think it may turn out ok. What ya think?
