.20 caliber Winchester 800/1000X
« on: July 25, 2006, 03:26:46 AM »
I finished the re-barrel of the 800X last nite and got up and put it over the Crony. 852 average with 11.2  beeman Field and Target Specials.
That's an 18 FPE rifle, and shot a couple of groups also, I am going to like this rifle it shoots GREAT !  pics enclosed.

This was an easy rifle to re-barrel, old barrel almost fell out after the pivot block was removed from the rifle. maching was quite simple only took an hour to machine the blank. This was an 800 X that I upgraded to a 1000X with a new top hat, so I finshed tuning it with guides and a thrust bearing in the top hat. it came out real quiet and very sastisfied with the outcome.

I knew this rifle would have some power with the .20 barrel because it shot so hard as a .177, was hitting  1050's with CPL's .

Russ ya gotta do this to one of your Turkish monsters, if ya can't do the barrel I'll machine it for ya. I am checking on a supply of these Walther .20 blanks and will let ya know.

Very nice work! I bet the larger caliber tames that thing nicely. There was no doubt that it had the power to push a larger pellet.
Let me know what the availability is looking like on those barrels sometime and maybe I can throw a little business your way.

Seems you lost about 1 ft-lb in the conversion, though - any idea why?

I have been shooting this thing most of the day now and here's some numbers.  They are starting to get better and better.

Beeman 11.2 Field & Target Specials
894 Avg. FPS     19.8 FPE.

Beeman  12.8   Crow Mags
762 Avg. FPS      16.5 FPE.

Beeman   13.3    Kodiak Extra Heavy
730 Avg.  FPS.     15.7 FPE

Crossman  14.3 Copperheads
710 Avg./ FPS.    16.0 FPE   "didn't shoot targets with the crossmans, yet"

Beeman FTS's are by far the best, see groups picture.

Still strong, but with the rifle tuned and good fitting guides not bad at all. At least it is real quiet now, just a good as any of my Gamo's as far as sound goes.

The rear spring guide there is not much you can do but heat srink it and also the top hat. I did put a 1/4 inch nylon spacer in under the top hat to help quiet it down, seems to work because it is quiet now.

I plan on shooting it a bunch more tomorrow to see if the numbers come up any more, it seems to get stronger the more I shoot it as the barrel smooths out.

By the way those targets were shot at 35 yards..
