crosman quest "smoking" ?
« on: September 22, 2007, 01:02:25 PM »
hi, i have a crosman quest with maybe 200-300 pellets through it. i just recently  noticed alot of smoke after firing when i cocked it open. i've never done any cleaning or oiling to it. could this be just excess oil in the barrel or an internal problem? thx.

i looked at the seal with a magnifying glass and there's alot of tiny metal fragments which seem to be embedded in the seal. i've only shot crosman premier  7.9 teflon moly domed pellets through it. this gun's only about a month old, do you think it has a defect? thx

Could simply be excess oil...

Not uncommon on Quests.

After putting a few pellets through the gun, do you notice an oily film on the breach face (where you load the pellet)?

yes vince, there was plenty of oil. by the way, i had read one of your previous posts about the pivot screw, took it apart and it was really loose. thx

Well, you've got 2 choices....

1) Teardown, debur, cleanup, relube and reassemble (probably with a new seal, $3.60)

2) Keep shooting it until the oil gets down to a reasonable level.

They are not "teflon-moly" from the Crosman factory, this guy is applying his own treatment to pellets he's already bought.

Wonder if the coating does any good?
