Question?
« on: September 26, 2007, 12:15:20 PM »
Does one get a QB-78?

A 2250 to customize?

Or a Talon SS with the CO2 adapter?

I know the first answer I'll recieve is: "Get em all". My reply to that is: "I'm still poor"

I also know that there is a wealth of info on all of these guns somewhere around here. However, just for grins, if some of you have experience with all three and could compare them, I'd appreciate it.

Most of my shooting to date is in the backyard, but I intend to get a little distance into my routine shortly.

Thanks,
Dookie

Kirby can tell you more about the co2 Talon and several folks have QB 78 that seem well pleased.
24" barrel 2240 Crooked Barn Featherweight, about 350~400 shots on a 3.5 oz tank at 570f/s with 14.3grain cp shoots dime size groups at 25m from the bench with the right shooter.

My bulk filled 2250 doing 750fps

My bulk filled 2240 doing 650-700fps

My 6 shot .22 cal group at 30m sitting. Target is on a 22 cal Accupel lid as a size reference. Done with the 2250.

I got the QB-78 tuned and a 2240 stock with some trigger work  and show goodies. Both are fine hunters. Ed

Thanks for your replies. Considering my limited budget I'm considering the Talon less and less, even though it makes me a mite randy when I think of it.

Still going to get one someday.

Are there means of collecting lead dust effectively with these guns(Crosman/QB). I don't want to cause problems for my neighbors with excessive lead dust, if you catch my meaning.

Thanks,
Dookie

The Talon co2 is a neat looking rifle...but consider, a QB79 will fill the same role, can be tuned (or ordered from Flying Dragons) to the same performance, and can run from a 9oz. tank (or a 3.5oz, air sourse, remote line to a 20oz. tank, or even back to a 12gr. adaptor).  Whole lot less $ if a bulk-tank gun is on your mind.

For the back yard, even some hunting, the 2240 (or 2250) is certainly light enough, accurate enough, and powerful enough to keep you entertained.  Money comes into play here as well...the best deals on the 2240/2250 set up 'rgiht' would be through the Crosman custom shop.  No valve changes, but the steel breech, choice of barrel lengths, etc. make the gun more firendly (without the steel breech, have to use the kind of "sucky" barrel-clamp-mount).  Wihtout any "bling" will end up in the $82-$85 range.  Consider, the base price of the box-stock untuned QB78 is less than that.

Talon is out of the question if money is a concern. I have the other 2. I enjoy my tuned QB in .22 the most. The 2300 is from Crosman custom shop. Its untuned but to get it where my QB is would cost more. My QB is tuned, shrouded and scoped for 185.00. Its tuned hot so shot count is low but it's not for paper punching. :)

Hey guys, just want to say thanks for all of your suggestions and advice.

After careful deliberation, I have decided to go PCP.

I feel that that is the best solution for me even if I don't have a cheapskate option. I'll just have to learn to part with the extra cabbage.

You guys do have some awesome hardware by the way and it didn't make my decision easy.

Thanks to everyone for posting,
Dookie

I've owned/own all three with the exception I've never run my TalonSS on CO2.  I like my Talon the best so far.  As far as saving money, all three of these in this condition cost about the same...and actually the Talon may be the cheaper of the three.  Here's my group:

QB78:

2260/2240 grip frame and trigger:

TalonSS:

Dan

Current shooters: Beeman HW97K .177 with Hawke Eclipse 4x16x50SFAO and Steve C. stock, Beeman R9 .177 with Hawke Airmax 4-12x40AO and Gene\'s Midas touch, Air Arms S200 with Bushnell Banner 6x24x40AO Rowan brass bling and Steve C. custom stock, BAM B25, BAM B40 .177 with BSA 3x12x44AO, Benjamin Marauder .22, Benjamin 397 pumper.

Got one. Trigger needs to be replaced and I still haven't figured out a way to mount an acceptable buttstock.

Thanks Paul,
