I'm Back............................
« Reply #4 on: September 30, 2007, 11:24:45 AM »
I had a really good time , but I came back without taking a shot at an animal. I heard several squirrels barking and when I put on a stalk ; I'd get to within 50 yards and they'd shut-up . The leaves were like walking on potato chips, very hard to sneak up on anything except deer. We walked up on a total of 4 deer , all does of which at two different times we could have made a shot with our bows that were back in the trucks. We never took them out . We small game hunted the whole weekend. One of the deer was less than 20 yards from us. Last evening , we'd split up and near dark I was headed toward the road and I heard my friend Eddie shoot his Gamo (the shadowmatic he won at the SC shootout in a raffle) I went on and crossed the road  and sat down in a new spot and waited for dark thinking he was probably shooting a pine cone or something . At dark I went back to the truck and found my friend already there with a big female fox squirrel . He said he shot it first in the hip at 50 yards as it was going through the tree, hoping to slow it down , and then put a JSB Exact through the lungs, that was all it took. I took a couple of pictures , I knew you guys would want to see it. My friend may have the squirrel mounted or he may just tan the hide and hang it on the wall . Great weather and beautiful weekend. kirby

Thanks folks , I had a great time but it's good to get back . I took the picture of the squirrel with the Gamo to show how big it was . It's one of the biggest I've seen . My friend said if he'd know it was an old female he would have let he go , but it's hard to tell when they're that far away and up in the trees with all the leaves still on. I got a big red male fox squirrel, a couple of years ago with my rimfire , it was big , but not as big as this one was. kirby
