Texas Hart Shot..
« on: September 28, 2007, 05:50:24 PM »
I have been a lurker here and on the other forum for years....After reading some of the hunting stories. I decided to post my two most unusual hunting experiences. My wife has a collection of stained glass lawn ornaments...Some are bird feeders.I had first purchased a B-21 in .177 about a year ago...I was slowly tuning and reassembling it. And  I was enjoying the "tinker" factor.Well we had a squirrel that would break the bird feeders, over and over again.I learned quite a bit about lead frames and stained glass assembly during this squirrels reighn over our yard.My wife saw this offender break one of her favorite stained glass feeders. She said " Cant you get rid of him?"I said "I can but you might not like it. It would mean I would use one of my air rifles."She said " I dont care any more. Just get rid of him." So I grabbed my B-21...All the while thinking"Pellet gun...Like The Daisy 880 I used to have.Well I got the offending treerat In my scope.. and let fly the pellet. It went through the squirrel. Through the wall of my tool shed and knocked a spoke off of my lawn mower....Well Nutz!!!!! I should have known better.  Chalk it up as a learning expreience.

Just reacently I was hunting squirrel In my back yard with a friend. We had gotten about 4 apeice.  When One just happened to present a back shot. I took a Texas hart shot and the bugger fell like a pinecone out of the tree. After retrieving my prey. I got a good look at the pellets trajectory. The pellet went in the rectal area. Then through the body cavity, and up the neck. Then finally exited out the skull infront of the left ear, behind the left eye.WOW!!! The energy at the point of impact is astonishing. This shot was 30 Yards away from the target, and it still had the energy to pass almost clean through the body cavity!OK so the set up on theB-21 Is ...JM Tune kit....And a Daisy Powerline scope....Using 11 gr. Beeman Silver Arrow pellets. After a lot of practice I had gotten to where I can shoot and hit just about anything I want up to 50 yards.Ive been practicing with paintballs...I can  confidently hit a paintball out at 48 yards.Im not gonna lie here..It still takes three shots...But I know I can get it In three.
Any way have fun and bve safe

Great account of your hunts Brad,

I'm sure glad my wife doesn't collect stained glass bird feeders ! for many reasons..

Good shooting, those Beeman Silver Arrow pellets sure do the job. Keep up the good work !

I have that Daisy Powerline 3x9 on my RWS320 (B-20), and it isn't a bad scope, considering it's modest price.Just the rings are a weak design for a springer. Mine wouldn't be in focus at shorter ranges in the higher power settings. I found out from a post somewhere on the web that you can focus it down for the shorter ranges when using the higer power settings . All you do is remove the front lock ring on the objective lens of the scope and then turn the treaded portion until it is in focus, then put the lock ring back on. That shot can make for a messy field dressing job. I once had to use  it on a deer that was rapidly departing after a poor hit. Good shooting!

HeHe...good shootin, nice stories, and keep 'em coming. We love the stories, the stories are good. It's always interesting to me how some folks are troubled by the elimination of cutesquirrels, until they damage something, and then the folks say let the bullets fly. :-)

I have a B21 too, although it is in .22 cal. Those rifles are incredibly powerful and accurate. I really liked the siver arrow pellets too, and used them in my Diana 350 .177, but it was hard to be really accurate at long range with them. Nice looking, heavy pellet at 11.5 grains, seems like it should work good. But I missed too many shots with the silver arrows, and went with Kodiaks and CPHeavies. Then I started hittin stuff real good.

Have you tried the Eun Jin 16gr pellets? I bet those would be awesome in your B21...it definately has the power to launch em. They are roundnose so they aremore accurate than the siver arrow pointys. Range is shortened, but impact is tremendous. They might enter into the rearend and come out thru the nose. Wouldn't that be a sight to see? A pic would be in order.

Great shootin Greg, the nutter's can be a pest and if I didn't keep em at bay here, they would have chewed up everything by now. They don't go to waste, their invited to dinner everytime. Ed

That is some good shootin Greg.  Paintballs at 48 yards is no small feat.  Sounds like you and that gun are in tune with each other....

Paintballs at 48 yards
« Reply #7 on: September 30, 2007, 03:22:03 AM »
I zoom the daisy powerline scope out as far as it will go.   I dont know what its called (adjustable objective?)....

Bench rested on my porch table.....The fence in the back end of my proprety is 48 yards out...I set paintballs on the fenceposts....

Like I said befor..I usually dont hit the paintballs on the frist shot.....I usually take 3 shots to hit it the first time.

Sometimes I cant hit a thing...I'll sit there and shoot 20-30 times and just cant seem to get it.
I figured out why just a few months ago. (I know it seems slow to some but I do this for fun. If I cant hit something I just move on to other targets. I dont keep at it till I work it out.)

As I was walking out to the fence one day I noticed small gusts of wind. Thats when the light went on....That far out the wind is pushing my pellets around.
The days I cant hit anything that far out, is probably do to the wind speed and direction.

Im not usually a longrange shooter...It just seemed like fun to try and hit paintballs at the back end of the yard. After some time...I can do it now.

Have fun and be safe

I have copied off your idea lately by obtaining a big box of paintballs myself, setting them on golf tees stuck into the yard.
I haven't tried to attempt your 48 yard feat just yet, but I can usually hit mine at 25 yards on a calm day about 50% on the first try.
It really is cool to see them explode with a solid hit, and I can hear the liquid *pop* upon impact.
Very satisfying.
