no kill, no pics, but a good story...
« on: October 05, 2007, 10:28:20 AM »

Today I scanned the hillside for vermin. Bingo!!! Squirrel alert!!! I'm down to only 1 or 2 squirrels a week showing up on the hillside...fun!!!

I ran in to get my 350, put a pellet in it, ran up to the sniper position, and before I could get my scope on the squirrel...he cried out and squealed(not with joy mind you). I furiously found him withmy scope...and lo and behold...there was a REDTAIL HAWK sitting on top of my quarry!!! What the hell!!! Of all the times...of all the squirrels...the hawk picks this one!!! My fun has been taken away today...maybe some rats tonight if I'm lucky.

Now...you guys shouldn't wonder about the fate of the hawk. I would never hurt a hawk. Hawks in my book are awesome!!! He can have his kill!!! He's much better at it than I am anyway....and there's plenty more squirrels in the future. The only things that get snuffed around here are vermin.

You know it Ed...that guy was 100yrds out and he was checkin out me and my wife looking at him through binocs. Then, no matter where I went, as soon as I flipped my 6-24x50 scope on him, he looked over in my direction...and I swear...it was like he was looking right through the scope *at me*. It was very thrilling to see him on 24 power. He's probably looking at me with 1000 power.

A few days ago, I observed Kestrels taking out dragonflies. They sat up in the top of a tree, and were flying to the dragonflies that were like about 75yrds away...I couldn't see the dragonflies...even with my 10x50 binocs. It wasn't until the kestrels brought back the dragonflies that I could see what they were doing...
