Nearly ready
« on: October 29, 2007, 10:29:20 AM »
Well it's the finals of the NZ national series this weekend and I have been getting the CFX all ready it does need a tune how ever but that will have to wait till after the series as I have to much to do like work and then get the range ready but the gun is shooting well I must say keeping my groups in a half inch at 30 meters from a sitting position good enough for what I need.
Have added a barrel weight to the gun this has made a huge difference and stops the gun from jumping as I only hold it with one hand with my fav sitting position gun rested on forearm it's magic just need to adjust the GRT I like it as close to a hair trigger as possible within safety margins no two stage trigger for me I never liked that creep toward the shot just touch the trigger and it's all over rover though many people do like two stage but it's my brain and my finger in control and nothing else.

That gun is beautiful.  How heavy is the weight?  And what is the access port for?

I need a towel after seeing how sweet that thing looks! :0

Very nice rifle! Everything on it is beautiful, but that wood, WOW. Not many pieces of wood that look that nice!  :) Best of luck!

Sorry forgot to mention the peice of wood covering up the left side of the trigger guard well thats just a little personal touch to further eliminate any grit or other crap like sand getting into the trigger mech as this can cause a world of problems and at our club range there is a lot of sand and dust and I decided to screw it on just in case I needed to get it of as for the weight well it's about 4 or 5 kg but I like a heavy rifle for target.

Hi Sean,

is that a "home made" stock? looks great. I am thinking of making one myself. Was it a pain to get the guides sorted?

cheers

Yup the inletting was the worst part to do on the CFX but I am in the process of doing another out of Oak for my .22 CFX will see if I can do a better job on this one and at least I will be able to swap between the two.

Please post progress on your new stock and loads of pix and tips. I am thinking of  getting a synth stock and creating my own custom (then I have the synth for plinking and hunting) rather than buying the royal and sitting with only the wooden stock.

I'll second JT's suggestion, Sean. We'd love to follow your progress on it, if it's not too much trouble for you.

Also, I was thinking that the access port was to keep the competition from seeing you had a GRTIII trigger in there, while they were getting smoked by your CFX ;~D

Very nicely done, sir, and best of luck.
