Spring compressors
« on: October 30, 2007, 12:23:47 PM »
Looking for plans. Randy's link is not working. Any other links? Charlies are good, but I want to get more ideas. Going to Hawaii for a month and need to make one there. Help a gearhead out! Mahalo all!
Research, use the right tools, take your time, and do it right the first time!

Check this one out.  Looks simple to build.  I think this is the one I'm going to make:

Here's mine, not the best looking, but works very well. It's made from some scrap 3/4" ply, 1/2"EMT electrical conduit and a 7/16"x12" piece of althread.

Troy, I used two nuts that are glued inside the block. One on each side plus I used some heavy washers with screws that hold the nuts in place. I used gorilla glue to set the nuts in place. the nuts were a tight fit as well. Also used a piece of al thread for the pushing screw.

Hope that helps

Gene, not only does that look like it is engineered to do the job well, it also appears to be a unit that can do the job safely. Nice work!

Thanks Ron.. Safety is a must when you have a spring that could really do some damage if it got loose.

Gene, Would you mind posting a picture with an Action in the compressor? I'd like to see how all the little pieces fit together.
