scope rings on gamo big cat
« on: November 06, 2007, 10:32:58 AM »
I'm using the rings that came with the big cat either the aluminum top ring stretched  but they are all the way down no gap at all between the rings , and the scope wants to keep moving back . does anyone have had this problem and if so how did you fix it I am trying to put the forward ring against the bell in the front of the scope hopeing it will help to keep the scope from moving howie

I've had the same issue with mine. The Gamo back ring with the stop pin keeps the rings from moving on the rifle but then the scope slowly drags the tape out of the rings as it slides backwards. I've moved on to a Tasco Golden Antler 3x9x32 scope and unfortunately the rings it came with do not have the stop pin. My Accushot mount should be here in a couple of days and hopefully it will cure the scope slippage problem. What a great rifle though! Other than the slippery scope I've been more than happy with my new toy!

Hi I just tried putting a piece of  rubber  under the top ring maybe it will stop the slippage and I am still letting the forward bell on the scope act as a stop against the forward ring. so far putting some thin rubber under the top of the ring has let me tighten the ring and still have some space between the top and bottom ring maybe this will work I'll shoot the cat tomorrow and see if it was a help and post my results.  I would still like to see if someone has had the same problem and how they solved it thanks

Howard, I think you may just want to consider getting another mount. So far, my favorite is the Accushot 1-piece mount. It helps that both front and back clamps have 4-bolts each to spread the load a little. Plus it has a built-in stop screw in the back to turn down into the hole in your Big Cat's receiver dovetails.

As far as putting the forward ring against the bell, I'd have to guess that you may end up with some scars on your scope after a few shots. If the rings aren't holding the scope tube tightly enough in the typical position, I suspect that the scope will continue to move in the mounts each time you shoot. I wouldn't want to run the risk, especially considering that any shifting will mess up your scope's zero in no time.

Hope that helps.

Bryan

I just got the trigger from bob it's great much smoother , and putting a rubber liner between the scope and the rings has stopped the sliding of the scope we used to do this on center fire rifles when we had this kind of a problem. Charliedatuna thanks for the great trigger. As smooth as I had gotten the cat trigger to work yours is better and it has a lot less travel before going off that's the one thing you can't change when smoothing the original trigger.I don't think I will change your adjustment it's fine even the trigger is now able to be adjusted.thanks again howie

I always found a drop of red loctite on the bottom rings works well...
