yeah..  I have a make shift home made one..  clamping my circular saw upside down on a home made table..this was when I made my pool table..  but that is another story.  worked for what I needed it for but a pain to set up. I am in IT so woodworking is just a hobby. But I would call myself a wood hore. I just love wood. Cant throw away offcuts worrying that I may need it.anyways..  have a few tools. need table and band saw next. then I am pretty much sorted I recon. I would love to woodwork for a living but there is just no real money in that here.. can make a living from fitting kitchen cuboards but proper carpentry not. Else I recon I would have done it.

nice..  I am unfortunately one of those sods with a brain for useless information..  Have to make stuff for myself. Hence the case..  but it ended up being very rewarding and I willdefinately do it again. 1st time I worked with polywax and the finish is spectacular to say the least. Last time I touch varnish!

looks real nice, for the foam you may want to try a camera store they often have foam for camera cases that works very well

Excellent job, JT! Very impressive.

You didn't say where you had found your foam, but around here, there are what are generically called "foam and fabric outlets", which my Mom haunts frequently for her sewing addiction. They typically stock all kinds of fabrics and materials for sewing, in addition to lots of different types of foam. Usually they'll have a cut-off bin where you can find scraps really cheaply. If you have any places like that around where you live, I'm sure they'd have some kind of useable foam for this and future boxes (after seeing this project, surely you'll be making more ;~).

The other source that you might check, if you haven't already, is camping and outdoor stores in the sleeping bag area.

Good luck in your quest for foam.

Bryan

Great Job JT,

Looks like a million !!!

Another place to try is an upholstery shop, auto and furniture reupholstery shops use tons of this stuff to re-do auto seats and sofas and chairs.

JT, when I made mine years ago I used an eggcrate foam matress pad. The cheap ones are less than $10 and you can get a few cases out of it. Yours looks alot better than mine did, I might have to make a few more.
