North Georgia F/T match
« on: November 11, 2007, 09:44:05 AM »
was today at the Airgunning Atlanta range . This was the first match put on by the N. Ga. club . It started off a little cool , but turned into a very nice day. The top shooter in PCP was a tie between Ken the President of AA and Greg the President of N. Ga. . Both shot a 40 out of 44 targets; and Jon and I got to set them up a shoot off . The first target shot "off-hand" standing was around 35 yards and had a 1/2" KZ . They both knocked down the target once out of two shots , another tie .(I had trouble shooting these sitting) The next target shot was between 45-50 yards and shot "off-hand" standing and the KZ couldn't have been more than a 3/4" KZ . Greg shot first and hit both of his shots (WOW), Ken followed with a first shot hit , but hit a little low on his second shot giving first place to Greg . Congratulations to both guys .I was very impressed with their fine shooting . And did I mention Greg shot with an AA 12FPE EV2 he's had for only a couple of weeks . I shot in hunter piston division with a 12FPE TX200HC and finished with a 17 out of 44 on what I thought was a difficult course with numerous 3/8" kz's . Tough shooting with a springer . It was a lot of fun for all and we forward to the Airgunning Atlanta monthly match next Sunday. kirby

I have never shot a FT match before and I am in Greenville SC, 2 hours from AA range (I think). I was thinking of coming to the Airgunning Atlanta monthly match.
Can I just show up and shot or did I need to do something more?

Martin you are most welcome to come and shoot with us . As a matter of fact , your first match is free. They don't charge for your first experience at field target. The guys usually meet at 9am for sighting in and the match follows at 10am with a 20 target hunter course followed by a 40 target field target match . If you need directions they can be found at the Airgunning Atlanta sight. It's a lot of fun , and you don't need a $2000 full blown F/T rig to have a good time . Most of the guys do shoot the big rigs at F/T but have another gun they shoot in the hunters match. I shoot my hunter gun in all the matches , which puts me at a disadvantage against the PCP's and even some the F/T piston rigs , but I look at it as good tough practice for the hunter's match . If I can knock down the targets on the regular F/T match , the hunter targets should be easy . I'll get them to put you in my group when we shoot , if you'd like . kirby http://www.airgunningatlanta.com/index2.html

I may have to come out and shoot sometime. I live about an hour or so from the Covington range.

Jaymo , come on out and join us. Our next match is the 16th of December . I'll get them to put you in the group with me. We'll a shooting good time . Last weekend I shot the course with my HW30 and my R7 and managed to knock down 14 out of 52 shots. hehe . But I had a great time . My best ever was only a 25 out of 52 with my TX , so I can only get better , I hope. My first goal is to get to 50% . We've got some serious shooters that shoot in the club, they shoot in the high 40's and that's on a difficult course . But, I go out every time, to just have a good time , It's not like you're going win anything but bragging rights anyway. We've talked about being a little more "hunter class" friendly .  kirby

Is anyone shooting with iron sites? Or are all hunter guns scoped?

I have not seen anybody shot any targets with the irons, That would really be handicapping yourself . But as I have said before , if shoot whatever way makes you happy . The only requirement is that the rifles output has to be below 20FPE and that's to keep down the damage to the targets . I have heard of guys shooting the entire match in the standing position , just to help them with shooting that way , even though we on have 1 lane that's a dedicated standing lanes with 4 shots. It's mostly shoot what you bring. kirby

Here we go!  I see another rifle already on the horizon..... I was gonna wait on the B26-2, but if everyone is shoothing with scopes, it's either that, or trick out the RWS(not here yet) or get yet another "spare" Quest, and really go over the top with mods....  I always did like being the under dog. Then the only one expecting more of me....is me.
ttyl,

Love your attitude , your going to enjoy field target if you keep that kind of attitude. It took me a year and a lot of practice to realize I just enjoy shooting my springers more than the other options . It just means, it's that much more of an accomplishment and more satisfying when I hear that that steel target fall and I did it the way that I wanted to. kirby

Gonna try to get up there, but it won't be till after the holidays. I'll just have to watch the weather, and see what kinda scoped animal I can come up with between now and then.  Afterall, like you said, the fun is in the shooting...AND meeting folks, making new freinds, and sharing common interests.

I'll be there....

What kinda training do the youngsters need to take?  I'll have my Nephew possibly,16 year old, and want to get him started right.

Are there "open shooting days," without competitions?????

We do have days when a few of us meet and shoot at the range . This is informal shooting and really not planned until a few days before we shoot. The next time Jon and I plan to get together and shoot I'll post it here and let you know. As far as what your nephew needs to know http://www.nrahq.org/education/guide.asp This will give him a good start and then the rest he can pick up at the range . kirby

No pain at all . happy to help. I try to encourage other "regular type" shooters like myself to come on out and try field target . I really enjoy it and I think others would also if they came out and gave it chance. kirby
