1000 FPS, backyards, and ricochets.

Thinking of working out a trade for a beeman R1.  Wasn't really shopping but a friend mentioned he had one available just sitting around in his safe, and squirrels are taking all the apples from my tree and gophers are messing up the flowers.

There are no neigbors behind me, just a big hill.  There are houses parallel to me.  From inside the house , the apple tree is only about 8 meters away, 10 meters to flowers.  I'm thinking the distance, the fact that I have a lot of wood in the backyard, and a 1000 fps pellet rifle.  Means shooting in the backyard would be a bad idea, I'd probably end up breaking my window or a neighbors?

You would only break windows if you were shooting at them, with the soft pellets ricochets are not a factor when hitting a tree.. Not saying it could not happen but very unlikely, unless you were skipping them of something hard like concrete.

Problem with trees is that they are full of branches...round hard objects of various diameters.  Strike one of those round branches on it's edge and even the fastest pellet will defelect rather than dig in.

So...either a clear shot with NOTHING ehind the critter (as you have a nice hill behind you to suck up any missed shots) OR a shot with a big thick tree trunk behind the critter.

Sounds a lot like my yard.  Before I bought a trap I was using a 2x12 pine board for a backstop.  I never had a "twanger", but the pellets were hitting head on to a flat board.  Regardless, got a trap.

So, no guarantees and don't send me a bill for new windows, but I'd say it's fairly unlikely........but still possible!
