chronoscope gave up its ghost and i need to measure my rifles power, .22 cal, pellet air arms field, round nose, 16 grains approx tested on a line of bean tins 1 foot from barrel and spaced 1/2" apart, will penetrate 7 sides with the 8 th split very well but the pellet retained (3 tins fully penetrated and the pellet retained in the fourth tin)

had some details recorded a long time ago but cant find, any idea what ft/lbs my rifle is producing

What rifle, Fin?  Most of the .22 springers shoot in the high 700's/low 800's with a pellet in that weight range, 800 fps with a 16 gr. pellet is about 22 fpe.  If you're talking PCP, all bets are off, my normal setup for my Talon runs about 45 fpe, but I can push it to over 100 if I want to.  Hope that helps.

its a RWS DIANA M52, not sure what spring i have in it at the moment, lost all my notes, think it is a english 12 ft/lbs type from aftermarket spring supplier, name on spring packet"TITAN PRODUCTS" from nibbs i think

just thought some one out there would have done similar experiments, as a lot of pre charged rifles and co2 have variable power and the people on this forum seem to have a lot of guns, making me more than slightly jealous

Nice rifle, over here, those are magnum class springers, and would be on the high end of what I said earlier.  However, if it is a 12 fpe spring, that's less than 600 fps, and from your test, that sounds too low to me.  No hard data to back me up, just gut feeling, and shooting lots of different rifles in the last couple of years.  Doesn't take the place of a real chrony, but there's a guy on another forum that's come up with a software chronograph, calls it SoftChrono.  It's on the Talon Airgun Forum, here's the link: http://talonairgun.com/forum/
Scroll down to the bottom of the index page, it has it's own sub forum.  Last time I checked, it was a free download.  Maybe it'll help.  Good luck.

SOFTCHRONO looks very interesting, i will have to give that a go, thanks for that

wonder if a cheap set of head phones work as a microphone, which seems to be holding up a lot of people using this gadget, think i did something like that with a tape recorder once, main holdup at the moment the usual wet weather here in Ireland where by the way we need a rifle licence to own airguns.

all the best
