Anyone tried refilling from a Welding Cylinder???
« on: January 03, 2008, 03:05:21 AM »
No, NOT an Acytelene or O2 Cylinder... That would be foolish!

Are there any adaptors/regulators with gauges for this type of set-up??? I figure if I can fill up with one of these, then it would be even CHEAPER than a SCUBA tank. The closest dive shop to me is 18 miles away and charges $15 a fill (still have to get a tank though). My local welding supply (AirGas) is only 5 minutes away and charges me $40 for a refill of Argon CO2 into a tank 3 times larger than a SCUBA tank with slightly higher pressure (more volume?)

I've got three 150 cubic foot (I think? They're the 5 foot tall ones)  Argon and Argon CO2 Cylinders that I use for welding, but 1 lasts me a LONG time. They're filled to 3800 PSI which is close to perfect for my Talon. Just slightly over by 300 pounds.

Here you go Sam, this is what I did with a 4500 psi nitrogen cylinder.  Take a standard Air Force scuba adapter, remove the K valve adapter, and install whatever CGA nut and nipple you need to mate up to your tank.  The first pic is the stock adapter, the second is after mod and installed.  One note, I'm pretty sure it can only be done with this style of scuba clamp.  Any more questions, let me know.

I use nitrogen,i have a 304 cu.ft. been using it all summer with my modded 2240 HPA but now i have a talonss and filled up with tank the first time ,now i just use pump. My supplier
wont set me up with nitro over average 2,200 psi.

Here is pix of mine same reg. as this pix. It shows tank pressure and out put,4,000psi ,works great

Right on!!! I FIGURED someone has done it!

I've got a couple regulators, but output pressure on them both is only 1200 PSI. BUT, I do have the AirForce Adaptor & a Hand Pump. NOW, I just need a fill clamp with gauges. Tee hee

Thanks Guys!
