Interesting idea for the Crosman 13XX Series
« on: January 06, 2008, 03:37:08 AM »
I woke up with another migrane at around 2 this morning and started tinkering to keep my mind off the pain (I STILL have the migrane BTW)

I have a Spyder Paintball gun with an electronic trigger. It's pretty much a grip frame with a  switch that activates a solenoid to drop the sear. The grip frame for it looks close to that of a Crosman 13XX series gun. Just slightly longer.

I haven't had BOTH apart at the same time to compare, but I think it might be possible to adapt the E-Trigger of the paintball gun to a 1377/22 or maybe even a  17/22XX series gun.

Anyone ever tried it? Any thoughts on this possible project?

Hey Sam,

When I get a migraine, I stand in the shower and let the very warm stream of water pound on my face, and breath in deeply the mist. It has worked for me 100% of the time, so far !

As for your idea, WOW, an electronic trigger on an air gun, sounds great !

Keep us updated on your success .

Good Luck !!!!

Boy do I love this forum.  Not only do I get advice and information on air guns but I also can get info on alleviating a migraine.  I will definitely try the shower remedy the next time I get one.  I wish I would have known this yesterday. :(

Thanks for the tip Bill! I do the same, but in the event that it doesn't work (hasn't reaaaaally worked for a few years now) I have a pill called Maxalt. Pop open a tab & place it under my tongue. In about a half hour the migrane is gone. But lately that hasn't been working very well either. Just got back from getting a Toradol shot in my left butt cheek. Now THAT clears a migrane up QUICK! I've been gettin em since I was in High School... They suck to say the least!

Anyway... I pulled the grip frame of my 1377 & compared it to the Spyder Grip Frame. It won't work. Not without major modifications to the grip frame or the main tube/pump handle or BOTH. The sear for the PB grip frame is too far back. It's also 3/4" wide and made of aluminum.  BUT, I maaaay be able to take the guts out and graft them into the 1377 grip frame. I just have to fugure out a way to fit an actuator rod, solenoid, small circuit board, capacitor and a 9v battery into the crosman frame. Then get rid of the factory trigger & replace it with a Micro Switch.

I might be able to fit all that in there if I made a set of custom grips with small compartments inside.

Man...Yet ANOTHER project that I got myself into LoL!

Hey Gary,

The water needs to be "very" warm as warm as you can get used to .

It takes me about 5 minutes with the water on my head and face, while breathing the spray through my nose and mouth, then I get myself a hot cup of coffee :)

My Doc. has me on enough pills now, one more pill, and I wont be able to get out of bed .

Hi all,
I hope that it's ok for a newbie Brit to add a comment, reference migraine?

Perhaps my self treatment for this most horrible of conditions might be of interest?

It is similar, in some respects, to that mentioned. I drink a pint of water in one go, 2 is better if you can, to help rehydrate. I close the ventilation in the shower room and build up the water vapour/steam, to help the mucus membrane in the nose etc. I let the warm water shower the back of my neck to help improve the blood flow and then shielding my eyes I let the water flow on to my frontal sinuses. Usually works for me. So that my comments are not completely off topic, very interesting idea to use electronic trigger in this way. I look forward to hearing how the experiments go.
Regards,
Buzz

Not a problem at all Buzz! Everyone's welcome!

So far the trigger project has stalled out. I've gotten side tracked for the moment. The only thing I've done so far is temporarily mounted the solenoid at the bottom of the grip frame. I still have to shorten the actuator rod and find a way to attach it to the sear.

On the headache discussion... Sounds like you guys have SINUS headaches. Mine are actual Migranes that last for a couple of days at least. With nausia, sensitivity to light and sound. Even walking makes my head feel like it's gunna explode. Every so often I get one bad enough to either put me out cold for a full day or black out the vision in one of my eyes. The first time I had that happen to me I wigged out and thought I had a tumor or something. The doc's did full CT scans, MRI's etc. but didn't find any tumors or anything out of the ordinary. I ended up with a diagnosis of Chronic Migranes and a shot card. If I have a migrane, I take the shot card to the Injection Clinic & go straight to the head of the line for a Toradol shot. THat usually takes care of it or dulls it to the point that I can sleep it off or stand it until it goes away on it's own.

Sam it shouldn't be too difficult to attatch the rod to the sear, could possibly be soldered on. Hope you can get back on it soon, sounds interesting.

About the headaches, Toradol is an anti inflamatory, get them all the time for my back, man that stuff burns, when they don't shoot it slooow. Since the Toradol helps, you could probably take a couple of asprins, also anti infamitorty, everyday and then your Migranesmay not be as severe when you get them.

Hi,
Yes I think it is sinus trouble that ‘triggers’ the event. This develops into full blown migraine, although it sounds not to be nearly as bad as the ones you describe. ‘Blood shunting’ is helped, I find, by the warm water and dehydration is sometimes associated with migraine and ‘cluster’ headaches.  Nausea and photophobia are still a problem.
…and now to the trigger…what sort of solenoid are you using please?

Thanks for the info guys!

I'm using the entire electric/electronic mechanism from a Kingman Spyder Paintball gun with an Electric trigger.

I can't really solder the actuator rod to the sear. The sear pivots at the far end so the rod would have to rock with the sear when it's pulled down. I have to fab some sort of yoke at the end of the actuator rod and find out how to pin THAT to the sear. But the sear is hardened and would be problematic if I tried to drill through it. Maybe if I anneal it then rearden after I drilled it. But I don't know how reliable/durable it would be after the heat cycling.
