Gamo Recon 766 fps
« on: January 07, 2008, 09:08:02 AM »
I finally completed my Gamo Recon project and was able to get the fps up without too much recoil or harsh firing cycle.

I achieved 766 fps with Gamo Hunters and haven't tried any other pellets because I ran out of time last night. A 10 shot string was:
745-766 fps. I acieved this by mixing parts from a destroyed Sporter 500 UPS trashed in shipping. I used the trigger group because it had the adjustment screw not found on the recon. I also opened up the air port some and used the original spring and piston. I did weight the piston and replaced the plastic trigger block with the metal one (rear guide) from the sporter. That did wonders for the felt recoil in addition adding a rear button the the back of the stock to act as a shock absorber if you will. I did space the spring and set it as it was very crooked. Besides that I did the whole moly lube and deburring tune as well as adding velocity tar to the spring. I am very pleased with the outcome and have mounted a cheapo 3-9x32 powerline scope (I love those things) and secured it in the provided stop hole cut in the cylinder with accu-shot 2 piece rings.
I plan on adding extension rods between the stock and buttpad for a longer pull length and a custom camo paint job but besides that my work is complete. I would like to thank UPS for destroying the Sporter 500 for without it my project would not have been possible. I almost bought an R7 just because I wanted a lower powered plinker/short range hunter but really wanted something a bit more tactical looking now I have it. I'll let you know how the accuracy testing goes!

I'll try to get some pics but it just looks like a stock recon outside all the good stuff is on the inside. As far a the camo paint job I am no expert like many on here but I'm thinking of either tigerstripe or maybe a faux maple looking stock. I never took the time to learn to paint that well all of my tuning was always internal modifications. Anyway, I am glad to be back at doing some projects for myself as the tuning business can be very difficult when others expectations are unrealistic to begin with.
