BEST (I.E. CHEAPEST) PRICE FOR A GAMMO 890
« on: January 08, 2008, 04:39:08 PM »
Hi All,

Brand new to the forum here and just now getting back into the airgun market again after about a 20yr. layoff. I've already spoken w/Bob on several occasions and plan on sending him my vintage FWB 124 to have him work his magic on it. I also mentioned to Bob that I'm in the market to purchase a new air rifle and after much research and deliberation I think that I've settled on a Gammo Hunter 890(s). Of course shortly after taking delivery I'm going to send it to Bob for the 'Full Monty'.

Don't know how much I'll be on here, or actually be able to contribute to the forum, but I'll do what I can. So, now for the $24k question...does anyone know who has the best price on one of these as I plan on buying one ASAP.

Thanx In Advance, Stan

Hey Stan,

Welcome, nice to have you with us.  I own an 890 with a BSA 3x12x50 and it's a great rifle.  I think you'll be very happy with it, especially after Bob does his tune on it.  I would also check Natchez,,, they sometimes have great prices on some of the gamo rifles.

Looking forward to your future posts.

Welcome aboard Stan. Take a look at the 440 at Natches, it is the same action as the 890 and on sale now for $99.

Thanx guys for the quick feedback.  I also did some quick 'surfing' and found that Cobra had them for around $175, but looks like it's 'out of stock' for now.

Mike, thanx for the insight on the 440.  I'd considered that one, and I know it's a great deal...but something about the 890 just tugs at me-if you know what I mean.

Hey Stan,

Welcome to the GTA Forums ! You found a GREAT PLACE TO BE !!

The only difference between the Gamo 890 and the 440, is that the 440 has sights on the rifle and doesn't have a muzzle break. I have a 890S, and for the price, I'd grab it, and see Gene_SC for a realy great break ! Now tha's just me, but for $99.00!

A big GTA welcome, Stan!

I gotta go with Brother Bill on this-- Gene can probably come up with a really groovy muzzle brake for potentially less than the price difference between the 440 at Natchez and the 890 wherever you might find one. You'd even have money left over for Bob's GRT-III triggers when he does the tune on it.

Whichever way you decide, glad you're here.

So, the only difference between the 440 and the 890 is the front/rear sights and the muzzle break? No difference in the power plant or stock? Are the front/rear sights removeable on the 440 'cause I like the clean looks of a scoped rifle w/no front and rear sights.

Yes they are the same power plant and the sites can be removed, so you could get the 440, have it tuned, put on a brake-shroud, for not much more then the 890.:o

Alright guys, took your advice and ordered the 440 from Natchez, to good of a deal to pass up. I'll remove the sights and add a muzzle break and voila...Hunter 890!  8)  Gene, I'll be in touch shortly for a muzzle break.

Just let me know Stan, and I will fix you up. I also have a Gamo 440 .177 and the stock fits me great. The wood on the 440 is as nice as the 890, so you won't be losing out on that part. Of course the power plant is exactly the same as well. Lots of room for improvement with some TLC...:)

Gene, just received my 440, I likie! After I put a couple hundred rounds thru it I'll send it on down to Bob for one of his triggers and a tune. Maybe you could whip me up a break and send it to Bob for install???

Gene, I actually like the look of the one that comes already installed on the Gammo 890, the ribbed one...I think it's made out of some sort of plastic though. I also like the appearance of the one that is on your webpage...it is the ported black one. I don't want anything to large hanging off the end of the barrel, something more understated, and I'm not sure what material to go with??? What do you recommend as far as ease of cleaning and long life? There is also the issue of price of course...I didn't see any pricing on your site.

Thanx, stan
