Pivot Bolt removal problems
« on: January 19, 2008, 11:40:20 AM »
Hi guys.  I am new to the forum.

I own several Gamos.  My latest acquisition is a Gamo 220 .22 caliber I bought from someone that had it for a long time.  Great gun!  I have been looking for one like that for a very long time.  I absolutely love it after a full tune and lube. It shoots wonderfully at an average of 650 with RWS ammo.

I have other gamos that I would like to use for parts but I just cannot disassemble the pivot bolt on ANY of them.  They are just so snug that I am afraid of stripping the bolt if I keep trying.  Simply put a screwdriver type tool, no matter how big, will not do it (unless you are hercules).  I presume that you need more like a wrench with some type of attachment to accomodate a screwdriver tip or something.

Does anyone know what tool is the best to remove or adjust pivot bolts!!??

Thanks

Rick

you need an impact wrench, the kind you strike with a hammer, around $20 @ sears. Make sure it's a quality one with the right size flat tip. Gamo uses some kind of threadlocker on those. I was actually able to tackle one with a big screwdriver and a lot of will power, but it messed up the bolt's slot. In my opinion poor design by gamo, as the bolt is too big and slot too shallow to remain undamaged.

Yup. Impact wrench takes 'em right off...

I've got a couple of old Taiwanese ones that I bought about 20 years ago (back when Taiwanese tools were what Chinese tools are now), and I've used both to back out a Gamo pivot bolt. As hard as it is to do with a regular screwdriver, it's amazing how easy it is with one of these...

Thank you guys. I saw one today but it was in a case and I have never used one for anything else so I did not make the connection.  I will get one and see how it goes.
