frustrated

o.k so here is the deal......i have a viper ...with the stock scope i could not miss it held zero great....i have since put a bushnell 4-12-40 on it .....its not as consistant in fact sometimes its down right aweful....on monday i put the gun away hitting what i was shooting at ...yesterday i took a shot at a starling ...should have been a slam dunk....i missed... a branch 2 inches to the right broke though....so i set up a target and sure as shooting ....3.5 inches right and low....it is very inconsistant now since i put on the scope ...i use and have always used beeman crow mags in it ...and with the old scope it was great. i put the stock scope from my viper on my wifes big cat.....its great....just the way my viper use to shoot...every nut and bolt on the gun and scope are tight...the scope does not seem to be damaged in any way ...it shot like this since i put the scope on....i cant hunt with this thing shooting like this....i like the magnification of the scope i dont want to lose that ....do i try buying a differant scope and mounts....?? and if so any suggestions on which ones in that power that wont break the bank....?? any feed back would be great....thanks

Is the Bushnell a standard rifle scope or one that is specifically for airgunning.  I have read where riflescopes often will not hold up on "springers" what with the recoil.  I use a 4-12 x40 Winchester from PyramydAir on my CFX and hold nickel sized groups at 20 meters.  Charlie sez"ergomonics of the hold make the difference"

its not an airgun specific scope ....but as far as the crosshairs and the overall condition of the scope its fine...unless there is something going on that i cant see .....but i have a tasco of the same magnification on my shadow and its been shooting great for a couple of years now

Sounds to me like it is the scope itself. To be sure I would put the "good scope" back on the Viper and try it out. If your accuracy becomes stable again you found the problem. Process of elimination comes into play here. As far as other scope choices to buy,..I'm sure many others will chime in with their best suggestions.

Most springer's will kill a non airgunrated scope sooner or later most of the time, that double recoil from the spring shake's em up inside. :0 Ed

I think all Bushnell scopes are supposed to be springer rated. Which particular model is this?

I have a Bushnell Trophy 6-18X40 that may be suffering this same issue.  I've already sent it back once or twice to have oil removed from the inside of the obj. lens where the reverse recoil causes oil to splatter on the lens.

here's an excellent airgun rated scope, I have one myself. It used to be on my Diana 350M.22, noe on my CFX .22 and has been thru thousands of shots so know that it will stand up. Its the one for $54.86 but not in stock right now. I've seen em for 50 bucks on sale, just cant find any right now, this has always been my favorite deal.

Ya Dave, I have 3 of the 44 bells and 2 of the 40's. I have just recently bought the new 44's but the others are a couple years old now and have always been on springers and hold zero just great. Yes Bushnell scopes are supposed to handle medium to heavy springer recoil. I have a Banner 4-12-40AO on one of my air rifles and it is almost two years old now.

Take that bushy off that rifle and put it on another and see if it holds zero.

well i am sending my viper to bob aka charlie for a complete turbo tune and trigger install tomorrow so when i get her back i will try it again with the scope and if its still shooting poorley then i will replace the scope.until then i eagerly await mt new gun!!

i will do that while my gun is in bobs possesion being tuned for the next week i will put the scope on my wifes big cat and see how it shoots...if i like the results i will most likely leave it on her gun and just have a new scope waiting to be put back on my viper when i get her back from bob...
