I'm getting upset!
« on: August 16, 2006, 05:46:57 AM »
Well, I shot both of my Gamo rifles last night-1250 .22, NRA1000 .177, and getting very upset with the NRA1000. I posted a message awhile back about the up&downs I'm having with 1000, Well they are still there. I have checked and double-checked everything with this rifle, I have checked all screws, marked the scope to check for movement, ect. It's not like this is my first day on the job. I can take my 1250 and point it at anything and hit where I'm aiming. I can take my B-40 out and it will shoot consistant too. I'm going to clean the barrel next and mount a different scope on it. I guess I will have to go squirrel hunting with the 1250 or the B-40. I'm starting to calm down.

Has it never shot well or is this something new?

This just started a couple of weeks ago. If you look at my up & downs message, it states what is going on. I'm wondering if it is not locking up correctly at times also.

I trhink the way it was left was you saying if you changed to a lower power the problem went away -- is that still the case?

It will shoot awesome groups at times but I'm dealing with so many up and down impacts. Like last @ 23yds, it shot a couple of shots in the same hole 1" high then out of nowhere it will drop a couple low, then it will shoot a group of ten in a dime size group 1" high again. It seems like I can never count on where it will hit next.

If you've only tried a couple kinds of pellets, I'd try a few different ones.

It may not be the answer but it's a pretty cheap experiment to run.

Or just send it to CDT =D

Hello,

It sounds like you have a scope problem. Best of luck...

Here is my two cents for what it's worth

I would shoot it with just the iron sights to see if the problem still exists and eliminate a scope issue. If the problem is still there I would strongly suspect the piston seal. If lube is getting past it then you will be having a non-even dieseling effect that could/would have a big impact on the variation in the velocity causing it to do exactly what you describe. Incorrect lube in the compression chamber, especially too thin could cause this also.

Positively, Charlie and Rabbit are right. It sounds like you have a scope problem. I would suggest for you to switch the scopes to see if the problem reoccurs.

Ok, I cleaned the barrel extremely well and lubed the lock up pin. Shot it, it seems ok for now but it may change because it does. I did notice that the lock up seal is really bulged out and is scraping hard. I already replaced it once but they seem to be too long. Charlie do you use Gamo seals? I looked at the shadow .22 and it seems to be recessed more in the barrel. Also I'm getting a little wear on  the topleft corner of the reciever where the lock up is. I have shot at least 1500rds thru it maybe this is normal wear. I'm gonna try a different scope next.

My thoughts are as I said previously...

I think I would shoot it first using the iron sights to see if that eliminates the scope as the problem. That to me would be the simplest and easiest approach to determining where the problem is.

I do use only the Gamo breech seals in the Gamo although it seems that some guys have stacked o-rings. To me that would be a band-aide approach and might do in a pinch. If the breech seal is installed and seated properly, it should be even all the way around and shouldn't be bulged out and should look like the one on your shadow. It can be a bit tough to get seated properly sometimes. I did put a post up a few days ago about the installation somewhere.

Here it is
