Gamo Whisper GRTIII install for Dummies
« on: February 02, 2008, 03:55:15 PM »
I recieved my GRT-III trigger promptly from CDT after everyone's glorious reviews of the trigger. I have shot the Whisper for about 1/2 a tin of coveted RWS SuperDomes and can now offhand shoot nickel/quater size groups the full length of my house(37.5 ft). I am ready for the trigger install. I am terrible at stuff like this and in frustration usually end up wrecking whatever I am modifying. So with that in mind, is there anyone out there who has taken apart the stock on the Whsiper and can give me a run through "for dummies version"?
I see there is two "star" head screws, off angle into the stock 4 inches from the end of the stock. There is also a palm bump just forward of the trigger that may be hiding some screws(I did not want to mangle it up prying it off if it did not need to come off) and there is a trigger screw that needs to come out. There is two screws at the trigger one on the inside and one on the outside. Any help appreciated.

It's pretty much straight forward...

First time I installed one, it took me 30 minutes and 20 of them was me combing the floor with a magnet cause the damn E-clip shot across the room

Anyhoo, download Chuck's guide on CDT's site...

Remove the two torx screws on the front of the stock and the screw on the rear of the trigger housing...

Separate the rifle from the stock by prying up evenly on both ends and be careful not to lose the plastic roller that fits within the guide near the front of the stock...

There's also a little flat plastic piece that fits in a slot on the trigger end (mine was loose and fell out, so take note which direction it goes if yours does the same)

Unlike the double E-clip Crosman shown in the guide, the Whisper has a one way pin with a single E-clip on the right side, so it will be the mirror image from what you're working with...

When installing the new blade, make sure the pin slides all the way up to the top of the beartrap slot...

If it doesn't pull the blade out again and make sure the sear lever slides into the trigger slot (the slot within the new blade itself)

Put everything back together in the reverse order and don't forget the blue locktite on the screws...

The install on my G1 took no more than 5 minutes lol

Ok followed everyone's directions and got it in no problems. 1st "shot" was an accidental tip off, luckily it hit the target and not my wall! tee hee I had to adjust the scope to compensate for jerking the trigger with the El Crap Gamo trigger, but now it is right on and a lot simpler to get on target. Might be a little wary out knocking around in the woods with such a sensitive trigger, but makes a great target trigger.

Always remember Safety First Joe,

Always use your Safety, And Always, Never touch your trigger until you are ready to fire your weapon !

That has worked well for me, for 51 years of shooting, one of many words of advice my Dad gave to me !!!!! And insisted upon !

Joe, been there-- done that. Not just on the first GRTIII install on my CFX, but also on my 440. Just as you, though, both times I was aiming at the target for the first shot and hit it, just not where I had expected to. The feel is just so much lighter and smoother than the stock trigger that it's almost impossible to avoid overpulling that first shot (not to mention that big stupid grin on one's face after realizing how much of an improvement it is).

Of course, as Big Bill rightly says, Safety First.

Bryan-- just another satisfied customer...
