Review w/ pictures AA S400HClassic 12fpe .177
« on: February 03, 2008, 05:22:09 AM »
What a beautiful day to be outside this morning . About 10am I drug out my chrony and equipment for a little testing . I began by filling the air tube to 190bar . I started shooting CPL's 7.9g. The first 20 shots started at 792.3fps for shot #1 and 800.2fps for shot #20 . The lowest shot was 787.8fps and the highest 801.4fps. A pretty good start and a check of the gauge on the rifle indicated 170bar left. The next 21 shots started at 803.7fps and ended at 812.5fps with a low of 803.7fps and a high of 816.5fps, still not bad at all and with 155bar air left to play with. I switched pellets to some JSB Exacts 8.4g , since I'm thinking the guns in it's sweet spot . first shot was 823.5fps and after 40 shots the last shot finishing up 80 shots was 828.7fps; with a high of 830.9fps and a low of 815.2fps. Wow!!! 80 shots and 125bar of air left . I switched back to CPL's and the first shot was 819.3fps and the 100th shot was 818.1fps with a high of 824fps and a low of 817.6fps. Now I'm up to 100 shots with a low of 787.8fps and a high of 830fps. an extreme spread of  less than43fps. and if I start my fill at 170 bar , I should get over 80 shots between 803fps and 830fps a ES of only 27fps. Oh yea I forgot to mention the air gauge read 110 bar at the end of 100 shots , so I had at least 10-20 shots left before the speed would drop off enough to effect POI . I then shot 5 of my favorite pellets off a wobbly metal round picnic table using  some leather sand bags . I've included a picture of my groups at 18 yards , why 18? because that's the levelest place to put the table without being in the way of my field target practice. BTW I shot 5 of the Kodiaks across the chrony and they are averaging 750 + fps. Not bad for a 10.6 grain pellet . This was after a refill to 170 bar . I'll let the pictures tell about the looks of the stock and finish. She's definitely a keeper .

She's a real beauty Kirby,

If I were a little younger, I would look into getting into this PCP stuff. :emoticon:

Thanks Bill , I wanted this particular model because I can fill it at home and go shoot and not have to travel with a the scuba tank and fill yolk. If I fill to 200 bar and shoot down to 100 bar I would probably get 130-140 shots . I love my low powered springer but the ones in this power range and above get hard to carry and hard to shoot accurately. For me anyways. kirby

She's a lovely English rifle David, and very nice shot shot and velocity spread. If I were going to consider a PCP rifle one of the AA rifles would be right at the top of the list, a 400 or 200 series. Very nice wood on her, is that beech with rosewood or walnut caps?

Absolutely beautiful David...:) I mean the ragged hole target... LOL   Hope you have a nice sock for her. I would be so afraid of scuffing any part of her..:) Guess that is why I bought a FX with synthetic stock...:) But I am a wood lover and I have to say that they make one of the nicest designed wooden stocks around with the checkering. Best of luck with your new winch and wish you the many shooting championships with her..:)

I consider myself lucky to have gotten two sweet walnut Air Arms rifles . My TX200HC and now this Classic. BTW those were all 5 shot groups . I think I can do better off a sturdier bench. Or maybe I should say , the rifle would do better . I may not win a championship with this one but I'll look good trying; LOL. kirby
