Superbowl crow
« on: February 03, 2008, 10:01:07 AM »
My oldest son went out to feed the seagulls today. He also attracted a couple of crows. I couldn't help myself, off to the gun cabinet. I pulled out the Whisper along with the predator pellets that she just loves. Smart bird saw me at the window and flew to the outbuilding next to my house 25 yards away. The outbuilding was to the right, and I might have fallen out of the window shooting right handed. So I put the Whisper up to my left shoulder steadied the gun and sent the Predator away. With a thud and a squack the Predator hit right in the boiler room sending the crow backwards off the peak of the roof. A big thud when he hit the ground, and didn't even move a muscle. Dead on impact. As you can see my boys thought it was pretty cool!

So you went southpaw eh?  Excellent story and shot.  I can't wait for our Whisper to roll in on the FedEx truck tomorrow.  Ashame it will be raining here for the next few days.  Hey, I'm right handed but for some unknown reason I've always shot left handed.  I can shoot right handed but it just feels awkward.  As for crows, I work at a waste water facility and the crows that hang around it look like small turkeys.  They're huge for crows.

So, Bent are you able to use the crows at work for target practice? That would be a great day at work. I'd  like to shoot left handed more. I am left eye dominant so I can look through the scope without closing my other eye. It felt nice and steady too.
Cant wait to see what Ed aka "shadow" knocked the stuffings out of today. You could tell he was just itching to let that hurricane fly.

Let's say in the day I did use the crows at work.  I recall rolling one off a handrail from 60-70 yrds away, my longest kill to date of a crow.  These crows are nasty since they tend to eat the floatables in the waste water.  They gather in groups larger than I've ever seen elsewhere too.  Due to interaction with workers they aren't near as skiddish as the average crow, which you proabably know to be one of the harder to hunt birds due to their intelligence.  Anyway, that was 10 years ago or more.  Since then I've been promoted several times and now sit in the office pushing a pencil and playing the part of information sharer.  I love the extra money Plant Manager brings but I do miss those days where occasionally rolling a crow off his perch during break time was my idea of fun.

Very nice shooting there. Is that an adult crow ??? I know there are many different types and am just wondering, It looks about the size of the  Magpies we have here.

Thanks guys I am having tons of fun with a pellet gun again. Thats about as large as our crows get up here in the pacific northwest, Sean. We have ravens that are close to the size of a bald eagle. At least they seem that big when they do a fly by. The magpies in eastern washington are real close to the size of the crow we whacked today.

If I can find the time I'll take one of our monster crows down here and post you a comparison pic.  Heck, I might even dust it off with a Gamo Whisper as ours is supposed to be here tomorrow.
