CYLINDER HONE

could anyone recommend a make, model of cylinder hone, that has a good availability of spare stones etc and will work on most spring guns

if i buy locally i will probably have to make do with rubbish and i hate buying a tool only to find a better and cheaper one, usually the next day

any and all help appreciated

Try NAPA auto parts if you have them in your area they have a bunch of different sizes and replacement stones. HTH.

Jason is correct. NAPA (among other parts stores) carries a full line of KD tools including this cool little hone with readily available replacement stones:

Check 'em out. You may need to fabricate an extension to accommodate the length you wish to achieve.

i know you have just saved me a lot of time, trouble, hassle and no doubt a lot of swearing.  

i used the elbow grease and skint knuckles method (PART No.: FU*!!*#*D) and always promised to to something that resembled a proper job

this here forum is more like a club, but you don't have to wait all week to inflict your annoying questions on those in the know

now would one of you cock and load my rifle for me, oh and bring some pellets with you while you're at it and some air rifles and some money and some............... :emoticon:

Just remember to use a light oil on the hone and keep it well lubricated when in use. The WORST thing you can do with a hone is operate it dry.

I bought a 3 piece set from NAPA. I also have a pair of brake cyl hones from Sears. One is KD, the other is Sears Craftsman. Probably KD with Sears' name on it. I've gotten the KD replacement stones from all sorts of auto parts stores in the 12 years I've had them. Tap Magic is good with these. Dexron Automatic Transmission Fluid is also good (my experience as a mechanic, anyway), and is sometimes cheaper and more readily available.

Marvel Mystery Oil is what I use. Smells good too!

Sometimes I use Kerosene or Diesel if I'm drilling/tapping aluminum...But that's only if I'm out of MMO

I was wondering how well Marvel Mystery Oil would work. Glad to know. Dexron mixed with kerosene works well, also. I use Tap Magic, because I get small amounts of it for free, from time to time.
