Pellet nonsense
« on: February 05, 2008, 01:17:13 PM »
I got my new GRT-III trigger installed on the Whisper and found I had to readjust my rifle scope to correct for the difference in trigger pull. Apparently with the El Crap Gamo trigger I must
have jerked a bit all my shots were slightly up and right or with the GRT-III low and left. Once scoped in most of my shots were grouped close together except when I blasted a Raptor they were always the flyer, usually a few inches from all the other shots-see pics. I also took apart my target box and pulled a bunch of pellets out. Here's some nonsense figures for you.
Out of 37 Raptors shot, 20 were found. Out of the 20 only 6 were deformed, one came apart breaking into two. Out of the 20 found 17 were dug out sideways. As far as penetration the farthest/deepest the Raptors penetrated was to page 337(of a AAA Midwest South Road atlas, about 700 pages), two were found on 303 all the rest stopped BY page 233.
The RWS SuperDomes 8.3g- out of 225 shot, 83 nearly whole pellets were found. The rest either disintegrated, were smashed on top of each other or were not recoverable lost in the mish mash of confetti. The farthest penetration was to page 553. Six pellets made it to 500. 11 pellets around 450 all the rest between 250 and 400. Nearly all of the lead Superdomes were smashed flat, only 9 I pulled out intact and only bent.

Hey Sarge, how many pages was your Whisper muzzle away form those targets? (I mean the target range, HeHe)
The trigger upgrade is a must do for any Gamo air rifle. That original Gamo trigger blade is an asymetrical (lopsided) heap of steel mess. It is missing metal where it could provide the best balance and pull. It has metal (weight) were it is senseless causing twist during squeeze.

CDT's GRTIII is a machine design award winner, surely a precision effort of work by a master. I have just installed it in an Gamo 850 Carbine to find the shooting feel and visual follow through in the scope of the pellet to the target is a tremendous improvement.
